7 days, 7 Ibiza sunsets

Miss W visits Ibiza's favourite sunset spots

Now we’re into the second week of August, it’s important to remember to take time to relax and enjoy Ibiza, among all the craziness and stress of high season.

But for me, like many other island residents, hitting the beach is not really an option at this time of year. It’s just that little bit too hot and we don’t have time to be driving around looking for parking in our lunch breaks. But that’s OK. I’ve discovered the best daily dose of Ibiza magic, one you can do after you’ve closed the computer for the day and as the temps finally start to drop. Something you can enjoy alone or with friends, over dinner, with a drink, in total silence or with some of the best music in the world.

I’m talking about Ibiza sunsets of course… Right now, the sun sets j-u-u-s-t before 9pm, which is the perfect time to unwind after work, or get revved up for the night ahead, depending on your mood!

MONDAY: Kumharas
It’s Ibiza’s alternative sunset view in Cala De Bou sunset restaurant and bar Kumharas, where you can sit on the rocks or rustic chunky wooden tables and chairs to watch the sun sink into the sea every night. I like Mondays at Kumharas, because let’s face it – Monday evening needs to be a bit chilled (especially if you plan on hitting Cocoon later that night)! Foodwise, you can grab a bocadillo with fresh meat After dinner, shop in the onsite hippy market for trinkets, CDs and clothes and if you’re lucky enough to be in Ibiza this week, you can enjoy a special Wax Da Beach party with DJ Vadim & Yarah Bravo alongside the Nightmares on Wax crew too.

TUESDAY: Cala D’Hort & Es Vedra
Sometimes I’m torn between Cala D’Hort and Cala Conte for a laidback, beach sunset… but then I remember the magical, mystical of rock formation Es Vedra and Cala D’Hort wins hands down every time. While the jury’s out on it’s healing powers and infamous energy vibes (I like to believe it, and there’s no harm in thinking positive), there’s no denying it’s just a stunning view, whether from the beach, the restaurants or the lookout point at the top of the hill.

Cap Des Falco, Ibiza Sunset Restaurant

WEDNESDAY: Cap d’es Falco
You don’t need to trek over to the west coast every night for sunset – just outside of Ibiza town is another sunset spot that’s definitely a must-visit on the Ibiza map. Cap D’es Falco is found behind the salt flats of Ses Salines – after a bumpy drive along a dusty camino (keep your eyes peeled for flamingos as you drive through the flats) you reach the stunning Italian-influenced Mediterranean restaurant, where you can take a cocktail on the daybeds (be sure to book in advance) followed by a luxe dinner in the restaurant.

THURSDAY: Rockovery Sunset Yoga Sessions at Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes
Sometimes, you’ve just gotta ohhhmmm. Finding time to reflect, take care of yourself and keep your body ship shape can be tricky in August, but a weekly trip to the newly built Rockovery temple at Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel can be just the ticket. Sunset yoga sessions with instructor Susie Howell take place before drinks by the famous pool – whether you order a bloody or a virgin Mary is entirely up to you! Massages and treatments are also available upon request – heaven!

The Orb - The Ambient Spheres Gala at Cafè Mambo: 24/09/10

FRIDAY: The Sunset Strip
Of course, no Ibiza itinerary is complete without a visit to the famous San Antonio sunset strip and I like to hit all my favourite bars within the one night to really make the most of the experience. Starting with a light bite at Kama Sushi, I then work my way next door to Savannah, where the Marco Carola Music On Pre-Party is heating up, for a cocktail (or two) and then I follow the beats to the opposite end of the promenade to the most iconic sunset restaurant of them all – Cafe Mambo. Fridays at Cafe Mambo have long been considered the place where the weekend in Ibiza officially kicks off, thanks to Pete Tong’s pre-party kicking off right after sunset. Just don’t forget to stop and admire the view along the way – or stop for a coffee or hierbas at Mambo’s sister, Mint Lounge, on your way out!

SATURDAY: Hacienda Na Xamena
If you’ve never witnessed the view from the clifftops at Ibiza’s original five-star hotel Hacienda Na Xamena, then listen up! This is THE premier Ibiza sunset viewing platform, completely immersed in nature with nothing but the sea and sky stretched out before you in the north of the island, in San Miguel. My top tip (and I say this from personal experience) is to book yourself in for the Cascadas Suspendidas, followed by a table in the VIP Lounge. Whether you’re looking for a romantic dinner for two or a special event with a group of friends – you’re given your own secluded section of the terrace, personal waitstaff and an amazing tasting menu. Oh – and my other tip: get a room! I know I certainly don’t want to be the designated driver when there’s such an amazing spread on offer…

SUNDAY: Benirras
You do need to arrive to Benirras a little early on a Sunday to ensure you get a good spot (not to mention parking!) for the weekly hippy drumming performance, an Ibiza sunset experience that shouldn’t be missed if you’ve never done it before. From around 8pm, the hippies come down from the hills (well, many of them come in cars, but I like the romantic notion of cave dwellers uniting) and slowly but surely each bongo beat is joined by another, then another, and another, until after the sun goes down. Bring your kids, bring your dogs, bring your bongos!
