Blue Marlin, hip bar in Cala Jondal

Blue Marlin, Ibiza, Spain

Sounds, sights and sushi delights (Vistas, sonidos y delicias de sushi)

Having reached near-legendary status over the past five years, Cala Jondal’s hip, happening and hot beach bar Blue Marlin continues its ascension with a host of after-dark delights, aural attractions and the addition of a swish sushi bar onsite. Open nightly for dinner, the setting is every bit as spectacular under the stars and the all-new sushi menu offers an alternative to the famous Mediterranean fare on the restaurant menu.

From combination sashimi and sushi platters and specialties like salmon, cream cheese and honey Gunkans or Dragon Uramakis filled with crispy prawns, mango and cucumber plus classics like tasty tempura and spicy tuna or California rolls, it’s the perfect afternoon or late night snack – or Japanese banquet by the sea.

In keeping with the theme, each Wednesday, the bar hosts Tokyo Nights, powered by Grey Goose Vodka and featuring Blue Marlin resident DJs, Geisha girls, amazing animations and performances.

Thursdays take on an experimental twist, with hot new thangs Goldfish performing freeform jazzy electronica, live from 7pm, then later in the evening, DJ Valentin Huevo takes to the decks performing a Balearic DJ set until the early hours.

When the weekend hits and the jet set arrive en masse, resident DJs including hot new talent Tom Peppe unveil Blue Velvet, keeping the beach bar grooving from 1pm until midnight on Saturdays. On Sundays, Flamenco maestro Paco Fernandez brings his complete live show – dancers, decks, MCS and guitar – out onto the wooden decking as dusk falls.

Monthly full moon parties are presented by Jade Jagger’s Jezebel – a fusion of fashion, music, art and design starting under the light of the full moon and continuing inside on on the dance floor, with very special guest DJs.

At Blue Marlin it seems not all the action takes place on the sand and sun beds…

There have been many more than one occasions when I have been known to linger long after the sun sets at Blue Marlin - it's just so easy to hop from the sun bed to the sushi bar, then from dinner to dance floor. Even if you don't have anything to change into from your beach attire, there's a boutique right there to style you up for the evening ahead. Now that's what I call service!
