Boutique Hostal Salinas, Ibiza, Spain

Salt of the earth

Take a right hand turn into the discreet driveway opposite Las Salinas beach and discover Boutique Hostal Salinas, a luxury hostel and restaurant smack bang in the centre of a spectacular nature reserve, boasting sand dunes, forests, salt plains, beautiful beaches and incredible sunset views.

Don’t let the name fool you – backpackers hostel this is not! Proudly presided over by owners and long-time (legendary) island residents Duesi Wolfmeir, Anita Dey and David Phillips, BHS offers 11 simple yet chic rooms, each with its own terrace, bathed in light and decorated with modern elegance plus all the mod cons.

Each bathroom comes kitted out with exclusively created, high quality BHS beauty products using salt harvested directly from Salinas as the main beauty-boosting ingredient. Converts take note: super-sized versions are available to purchase at reception.

You don’t need to be a hotel guest to enjoy the delights of BHS however - the restaurant and lounge bar are open to the public and an expansive events area is available for weddings and one-off soirees. Drop in before or after hiking, trekking, diving, swimming, sunbathing or sailing to see why Ibiza locals have been hooked on this hotspot since it opened in 2009.

Every appetite craving can be satisfied by new head chef Daniel Gastalver’s diverse menu options. Think breakfast buffets, takeaway beach lunches, tapas, long lazy lunches in the Spanish menu del dia tradition, candlelit dinners and barbeques galore. Daily cocktail sessions take place on the terrace, with DJs spinning beats as the sun goes down.

On the first and third Fridays of every month, local radio gurus Ibiza Sonica broadcast live, while Saturdays are all about the amazing Lailololailo Flamenco parties. And did we mention David is also a resident DJ at Space? Thankfully, sharing his extensive music collection with BHS is all in a day’s work…

After a long, hard day (ahem!) on Salinas, there's nothing I like better than strolling across the road to Boutique Hostal Salinas, where Duesi, Anita and David literally make me feel like I am a guest in their own home! Quite often I've found myself going for one quick drink and then staying for dinner... the menu is simply amazing!
