Take your pic…
To capture the essence of life in Ibiza on camera, one must be blessed with an eye for detail, a vivid imagination and a natural fascination with the island’s cultural, glamorous and diverse population. Ticking all those boxes is the Argentinean born, Ibiza-based photographer Gabriel Vazquez.
From the minute he picked up his first camera, Gabriel knew this piece of equipment would be by his side for the rest of his life. Although he holds a degree in photography, it was two years spent working as staff photographer on a local newspaper – shooting anything and everything from bushfires and bands to football - where he learnt the most valuable and varied on-the-job skills, abilities that today put him among the ranks of Ibiza’s most in-demand photographers.
When greener pastures and the urge to travel beckoned, Gabriel headed to Buenos Aires, followed by the Dominican Republic, snapping landscapes, jungles, beaches and the local people who captivated his attention along the way, also falling in love with an Ibicenco woman, now his wife.
The couple relocated to Ibiza in 2007, where Gabriel quickly made himself, his talents plus his wide and varied portfolio known to those that mattered in island circles, fast developing a reputation as a respected freelance photographer who can cover all bases (from all angles!), be it weddings and special events or clubs, restaurants and rock concerts, plus fashion, editorial and social snaps to boot.
Given the rich tapestry of Ibiza’s landscape, lifestyle and locals, it appears fate has seen Gabriel fall, quite literally, into the perfect place to suit his passion for photographs that are never repetitive, always spontaneous and above all, pictures that capture the many different faces of the island he now calls home.
