Gazing out to sea from the sandy-floored terrace of Aguas Blancas Restaurant, you get the feeling you’ve discovered one of the last remaining untouched beaches of Ibiza. As the foamy white waves crash onto the long expanse of sand, set up camp at the chunky teak chairs and tables and take it all in - your instinct could just turn out to be right…
Set beneath lush hillside foliage with the dramatic rocky coastline below, this quaint blue shack has been the only structure presiding over Aguas Blancas for almost 20 years. However in 2006 British-born Justin Mallett – who originally came to Ibiza as a stylist - began to nurture and grow what was once a small kiosk into the now thriving beach restaurant serving up to 700 diners a day and also available for private hire.
Chef Damien Kavanagh - born and bred in Ibiza with a background in Argentinian, Spanish and French cooking - leads a kitchen where emphasis is on quality and simplicity – and this is oh-so-apparent in the taste. Mediterranean flavours run throughout the menu with an emphasis on simplicity and taste – also available for private catering.
Chalkboard menus declare daily specials including grilled catch of the day or curries to tempt those who prefer more of a kick to their meal. Fall in love at first bite with the famous paella (served from 14.30 every day except Monday) and be sure to sample the seasonal salads – a vegetarian’s dream come true. All-new hot sandwiches (our favourites are the Peri-peri chicken or steak varieties) are also available to take-away – and we love the freshly baked bread.
For dessert, try the homemade ice cream (including Baileys flavour for the big kids) or sample the classic cocktails with a twist like fig mojitos and kiwi caipirinhas, meanwhile to quench the designated driver’s thirst is an amazing homemade lemonade.
But let’s keep this our little secret, OK?
