El Ayoun, San Rafael, Ibiza, Spain
When the front entrance to a restaurant is a tropical bathed pathway leading to a pint-sized wooden doorway, one gets the feeling the imminent experience will be nothing less than a sophisticated fairytale. This is El Ayoun - in oh so many ways.
Founder, owner and director Charles Delfortrie has created a paradise of pleasures for those with a taste for luxury, glamour and after-dinner antics. Decadent décor, exotic restaurant, sushi lounge, garden dining, impeccable service, sensual belly-dancing performances, a fashion boutique and an exclusive VIP lounge - all has been indulged.
The primary indulgence however, is the exquisite menu, expertly crafted and updated every season by one-of-a-kind head chef Stephane Gasciolli, now in his 10th year at El Ayoun. A world of flavour created via an array of international cuisine – a culinary journey through France, Morocco, the Orient, the Mediterranean and more.
For entrée, paper thin scallop carpaccio with truffles is a must-try; for mains, melt-in-your mouth Crying Tiger, a luscious beef filet with spiced rice or the incredible lamb shoulder, slow roasted to perfection for a mere seven hours. As for dessert? A cascading waterfall of fresh seasonal fruits or the ultimate black forest cake.
Then there’s the sushi bar, a sleek and sexy affair serving Japanese fusion delights. Privado, the bar with cocktails to die for and music to move to by the one and only Angel Cielo and La Boutique, a fashionista’s paradise featuring collections by Harvey Musin, Nunca Fuimos Angeles Limited and designer Ana Peman, for those who can’t resist some after dinner retail therapy.
A trip to El Ayoun is a journey indeed – baggage not required.
