El Chiringuito at Cala Gracioneta, Ibiza, Spain

Hidden treasure

Once you’ve stumbled upon El Chiringuito at Cala Gracioneta – down a winding road past San Antonio and traipsing down a little tree-lined pathway, or a short walk around the rocky coastline from Cala Gracio – it’s possible you’ll never want to leave.

And between the hours of 10am until well after midnight, there’s no reason you should!

What originally opened as a tiny beach shack serving coffee and beer in 1999 is now a renowned Ibiza dining establishment. Presiding over a breathtakingly beautiful bay, the rustic beach restaurant serves breakfast, coffee, fresh juices or cocktails on the shaded terrace or direct to your sunbed until lunch begins at 12.30.

Snack on tasty traditional tapas, like Galician style octopus, steamed mussels and garlic prawns or opt for fresh fish grilled to perfection with aromatic oil, baked in sea salt or cooked in a unique, creamy sauce of saffron and cava.

The ‘secret recipe’ paella is rumoured to be the best on the island and one of the many reasons customers return year after year. But there’s plenty more – succulent grilled meats, hearty pastas and beautifully presented salads and daily specials.

The secluded and intimate location makes El Chiringuito a superb choice for Ibiza weddings and special events and by night, it takes on a romantic, fairytale-like ambience, softly illuminated by twinkling candles, and low lighting. From 9pm on Fridays, listen to live Brazilian music and on Saturday, live flamenco by Gypsy Moreno of the Gypsy Kings.

You may have come for breakfast, but you’re most welcome to stay for a nightcap!
