Amongst the striking scenery of salt plains, sand dunes and the crystalline waters of Es Cavallet is a new Ibiza beach restaurant of the highest calibre – known simply as El Chiringuito.
Completely renovated in April 2009 by new owner and international entrepreneur Jonathan Thorogood and partner Olivia Fleury, the spacious El Chiringuito is in harmony with its surroundings, with a light and airy ambience created through use of soft neutral colours, exposed wooden beams and a rustic finish to concrete walls.
As the sun rises over the beach, the sweeping views out to Formentera and across to Dalt Vila are heavenly and El Chiringuito offers early birds simple and healthy breakfast choices, including just-baked croissants, focaccias, fresh fruit, muesli or eggs scrambled with smoked salmon.
For lunch, the Mediterranean menu draws on French, Italian and Spanish influences. Chef Martin Ponzo, hailing from Barcelona’s Arts Hotel, works with a philosophy of simplicity done well (if not perfected) using the highest quality fresh, local, organic produce.
To start, try the melt-in-your-mouth Jamon de Bellota Extremadura (five-star Spanish ham), Italian Burrata or classic Nicoise or Caesar salad. For mains, an incredible soup of whole grilled lobster for two or delectable fillet steak, served with caramelised endive and Ibicenco potatoes. Dessert is all about the summer crumble or for chocolate lovers, the double chocolate brownie.
Beach classics also feature, from club sandwiches, gourmet fish and chips to the star of the show, a burger made from 100% Argentinean topside beef with caramelised onions, rocket plus either smoked or Jalapeño cheddar.
To quench your thirst, the wine list boasts an impressive international selection and the juice bar offers freshly squeezed fusions and cocktails all day long. Beach and boat service is offered and the venue is also available for weddings or private events.
Simply put, perfection by the sea.
