El Clodenis, San Rafael, Ibiza, Spain

An angel at your table

Sitting at the top of a beautiful hill in San Rafael, with stunning views of the neighboring church is legendary Ibiza restaurant El Clodenis, loved by Ibiza locals and the gastronomic jet set for over 25 years, for its romantic setting, expansive, beautifully lit terrace and outstanding French Provencal and Mediterranean cuisine.

After a four-year hiatus, El Clodenis was given a new lease of life by new owners David Oliel and Didier Macia in 2010. Upon discovering the passion and dedication of its many followers for the restaurant’s heritage, they vowed moving forward to retain its soul, aura and charm.

With this in mind, original El Clodenis chef Jose Miguel Gonzalez Bermudez returned to his post, ever-so-slightly modernizing the menu with the expert guidance of two-star Michelin chef Michel Sarran, reviving classic dishes from days gone by.

To start, try the famous lentil salad, genuine Périgord foie gras or Provencal style tomatoes with roasted goat cheese and pesto. Mains include the much-loved free-range chicken with sweet garlic and roast potatoes, mouth-wateringly good preserved suckling pig, with pine nut and golden raisin polenta or the oh-so appropriately named magnificent rib eye, flown in directly from the Pyrénées.

To the delight of Ibiza residents, El Clodenis is open all year round, with its signature angel statue in the courtyard presiding over nightly proceedings. An angel at my table? Yes please!
