Sandy’s Bar & Restaurant, Santa Eulalia, Ibiza, Spain

Reinventing a classic

Sandy’s Bar & Restaurant – at the beginning of Santa Eulalia’s famous ‘restaurant street’ – is steeped in folklore of Ibiza days gone by. But in 2011, it’s what’s inside, beyond the unassuming street front, that counts: a high quality restaurant given a new lease of life by brother and sister Benedict and Chloe Gorman.

All-new are the spacious modern dining area with a distinct gastro-pub vibe and all-weather retractable glass roof and bright and breezy garden dining space, plus a swish private dining room and adjacent open-air Twinkle Terrace upstairs.

Renowned Dublin chef Benedict brings his passion for healthy, homemade cuisine to the table. Pre-beach brunches are served daily from 9.30am until 3pm, with options for all appetites, from eggs benedict and steak sandwiches to superfood salads and mezze plates. Dinner commences at 7pm, a modern Mediterranean affair with regularly changing, produce-driven specials.

Of course, that legendary cocktail bar – an eccentric, antique filled space that was the original heart and soul of Sandy’s - remains. Sit right where stars like Errol Flynn, Laurence Olivier and Freddie Mercury (and many more!) mingled in their heyday, and sip on a Bloody Mary, as was the late, great proprietor Ivor ‘Sandy’ Pratt’s penchance! After all, if it ain’t broke…

White's Miss W says: 'I daydream about Ibiza back in the day when the Hollywood jet set roamed the island... Back in the real world, I'm thrilled the legendary Sandy's has been reinvented in the most spectacular way by Chloe and Ben - who by the way, have a unique music policy which I LOVE, only tunes dating from Sandy's heyday, 1964 - 1976. Such a cool vibe!'
