If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then taste must be on the palate of the discerning diner, however here in Ibiza, good taste is available to all – and conveniently found just outside of Jesus.
Taste is the vision come to life of Dutch husband and wife team, Petra Flenter and Hans Molkenboer – newfound permanent island residents after visiting for 20 years – and new to Ibiza this summer.
With predominantly white modern decor accentuated with contrasting details like glossy black chandeliers, bright cushions, cow-skin rugs and an amazing wall mural featuring Ibiza town, stepping onto the fairytale-like vine covered terrace of Taste feels like discovering Ibiza’s very own secret garden.
In the kitchen Italian chef Luca Fattorusso has created a Mediterranean menu - biodynamic where possible - merged with global flavours, including Thai, Moroccan and French.
Instant favourites include vegetable tempura, with eggplant, tuna tartar and chili sauce or grilled vegetables with mozzarella buffalo, Serrano ham and olive tapenade. For mains, try risotto of grilled vegetables and cream of pumpkin with rocket or mussels served Asiatic style in white wine and lemongrass.
Half portions of most menu items are available – sure to please those who experience food envy, girls with smaller appetites or guests with a sweet tooth who’ll want to leave room for Taste’s to-die-for homemade tiramisu.
Meals are presented on quirky plates (available to buy, as are matching espresso sets) featuring a reproduction of the painting, ‘El Torro’ by renowned Dutch artist Marjolijn Spreeuwenberg – as part of the exclusive Taste Of Art concept.
