When is an interior designer not simply an interior designer? When she is Clare Bloomer, of Clare Bloomer design: Royal Academy of Dramatic Art acting graduate, artist, dramatist, producer and dreamer. We prefer to think of her as a set-designer for the stage we call the world.
Ignoring conventional routes into interior design Clare – who has the commanding presence of a trained actor – moved organically into design from her work in theatre. ‘Analyzing the needs of a client and a room is similar to analyzing a character in a play. The rooms we live and work in become three-dimensional visions of our idealised selves,’ she explains.
With this powerful insight into the dynamics of creating beauty, Clare is uniquely equipped to integrate with the heartbeat of Ibiza. It was her innate feel for the diurnal motion of Ibicencan life that led Clare to a rewarding partnership with the much-loved restaurant Aura. The venue was looking for a fresh design influence to reflect its refined direction and Clare immediately sensed what the space needed. The result? A dramatic transformation into an organic environment that echoes nature and beauty: hidden lights that glow like sunset, sandy-coloured fabrics and an expanded terrace to enjoy the summer air.
All of Clare’s projects embody her key concepts: that life is a journey mediated by environment and nature. That beauty should be inclusive and intuitive rather than elitist and abstract. That the ultimate goal is to welcome everyone and create a comfortable place for interaction, rather than demanding an audience.
With these simple rules she’s transformed (amongst many other spaces) a hair salon in Sant Joan, a Tribeca loft and a rural finca in Ibiza. There is no space, no dream, she can’t stage-manage to perfection.
