Dominating the south of Plaza Del Parque - like a model on the end of a runway - is the spectacular showroom belonging to luxury fashion brand Kurru Kurru, a cornucopia of couture featuring red carpet, dazzling lights, minimal décor plus a gorgeously clad fashionista striking a pose at the entrance.
Delicately draped silks – sourced from France and Italy - hang glamorously from industrial metal S-hooks, while chic Swarovski crystal detailing is reflected in floor-to-ceiling mirrors. Contrasting coloured finishes - from clever corsetry and sexy shades of metallic leather to exquisite lace and intricate beadwork – catch the eye at every turn, testament to the creative vision of founder and designer Marinela Cifteli.
A truly independent spirit, Marinela – who was born in Albania, grew up in Germany and studied fashion in Miami - moved to Ibiza in October 2006, teaming up with Portuguese born designer and art director Ricardo Coehlo - who had spent years creating costumes for the Paris opera - to cultivate Kurru Kurru.
Their different backgrounds made for a perfect fit, literally. Ricardo is practical with measurements, finishing and stitching while Marinela takes inspiration from what women actually want – crease proof and lightweight fabrics that breathe, won’t scratch skin and retain shape plus multiple ways to wear each piece so you need never repeat an outfit.
Kurru Kurru is not about seasonal collections – rather, statement pieces to wear forever. ‘When it feels good and makes you feel good, you can always wear it,’ Marinela nods knowingly, designing with sexy, strong and self-confident women of all figure shapes in mind, whether one off couture creations or ready-to-wear party frocks.
As for the name? Kurru Kurru is Marinela’s unique personal expression for those she cares about. The perfect way then, to label her labour of love...
