Like a virgen…
The Virgen Market, Ibiza Style, Spain
In the ‘70s and ‘80s, the famous Calle De La Virgen strip in Sa Penya was buzzing with emerging designers and fashionistas, defining Ibiza style as we know it. Fast forward to today and the area is experiencing a major style revival, led by two strong, sassy and sexy women – Italian designer Barbara Boner and Ibiza it girl Sasha Moon, introducing their new fashion and art concept space, The Virgen Market.
Proudly presiding over the street’s entrance and accessed by a quaint white staircase, The Virgen Market is a light, bright and airy loft space filled with an array of gorgeous pieces guaranteed to whet your fashion appetite. Each rail is a mix of styles, colours and unique textiles and where exclusive international boutique brands like Italy’s La Maison Du Couturier meet power players like Diane Von Furstenberg and are fused amongst the individual collections of the store’s proprietors.
Barbara’s designs are made in Italy with the finest fabrics, from antique lace and sweet liberty prints to the softest of leathers – beware her lust-worthy handbag collection – while Sasha’s are exquisite printed silks, chiffons and leathers produced in Bali - think sweet bedroom collections plus chic leather jackets, bags and belts.
The centerpiece of the space is a striking jewellery display, boasting an eclectic yet elegant mix of pieces. Stephen Webster, Zara Simons and Natasha Dahlberg are among those represented, alongside Barbara’s unique hand painted (using Chanel nail polish no less!) skull necklaces, delicately dangling from antique French La Perla lace.
Downstairs functions as a constantly evolving gallery – dubbed ‘The Art Box’ due to its cubic proportions - bringing the work of exciting urban artists to Ibiza and currently displaying an amazing installation by Carolina Sardi and photography works by Luciana Abbait and Elettra Mallaby.
Viva La Virgen revolution!
