Renowned in Ibiza for handmade, bespoke wedding rings,jewellery designer Cyd Hutton of JOY Jewellery specialises in creating unique and unusual pieces that bear a true sense of the couple’s love.
‘It began when my friends started getting married around 15 years ago and I made their rings,’ she explains. ‘Now it’s a big part of my business.’ Considering it an honour and a big responsibility, the designer is very conscious of the energy she focuses on each ring. ‘You’re making rings people will wear forever, symbolising their vows, so the power and intention going into that is very important.’
A fountain of knowledge when it comes to the energy of stones, crystal healing and symbolism, plus an advocate of ethically mined materials, Cyd consults each couple to get a feel for their vision and union. The personal process includes sketching, talking, handling metals, selecting stones, looking through images, colours, sizes and technical details, until a final design is agreed upon.
‘I love the challenge and creative process of working together and ending up with a unique piece they helped design,’ she says. Past requests include incorporating a grandmother’s ring or creating rings with interlocking heart shapes and even rings with runic symbols made in a certain phase of the moon!
JOY Jewellery bespoke wedding rings take between six to eight weeks for completion, but Cyd advises having the rings in your possession at least one month before the wedding, in case last minute alterations are required. Prices vary, depending on metals, stones and workmanship, starting from simple, silver designs at 200€ to platinum settings at over 2000€. For couples who prefer to be even more hands-on, Cyd also holds workshops to make your own wedding rings.
