Another day, another opening. Yes, we’ll all be making that joke for at least the next month to come… but indulge me while it’s still fresh right now! This time, it was time to head up north to Aura.
After last year’s mammoth renovations, you’d think these guys (and gals!) would want a winter off. A little downtime. Some rest and relaxation. A well-deserved break. But noooooo. Not Aura. While others spend the winter hibernating, they spend it plotting, planning and well, just generally revamping, renovating and rebuilding. Clearly it’s a habit. I’m already interested to see what next year will bring…
But I digress. We arrived to discover an enormous canopy extended over the garden terrace. Now I’m talking Cirque de Soleil style peaks and poles (though there were no acrobats to be seen – best to leave that to the folks at Foc I Fum!) – which according to those in the know, can be taken down when it’s warm enough to enjoy 100 percent alfresco dining and be erected easily whenever there’s sign of bad weather.
Not that we have bad weather in Ibiza in summer of course!

While diners outside were settling in for a long meal, inside was rapidly filling up – fast. It seems the return of Aura’s Friday night party Dantz was hotly anticipated… and judging by the screams (and when I say that, I really mean SHRIEKS) of the girls/women/mothers at the front of the dance floor as Aura’s musical director took to his task, Antz still remains the ladies’ choice in Ibiza!
And from then on, it was back to business. Great cocktails, party music, about a zillion friends and Aura, just the way we like it.

THE LOWDOWN
THE GOOD: Watching the parade of nude outfits parade into the garden restaurant (as in beige, not the other kind of nude) one after the other. You see, Vogue is always right. And so is White’s fashion forecaster, Guadalupe Revuelta, who predicted the trend last month. You read it here first folks, this summer, it’s all about going nude.
THE BAD: An 8.30pm booking at an Ibiza restaurant opening is not generally a good idea. It’s not the restaurant’s fault… honestly! But the late, tardy, naughty, disrespectful guests who turn up over an hour late then take half an hour to sit down and then another hour to order who create the chaos that must be held responsible. I’m just saying…
THE GOSSIP: Now that Aura has changed their menu concept – no more tiny tapas bites and back to big three course style offerings, you have to wonder whether the concept of big groups sharing those big round tables will still work, or in fact, if it will be more practical – less clutter on the tables. Time will tell of course… and Miss W is looking forward to her next visit so she can tell you all about it.
