Head to hills behind our favourite little northern village San Carlos and you’ll catch yourself falling in love with one of Ibiza’s very first Agroturismos, Hotel Can Talaias. Rural, rustic and indulgent, Can Talaias was converted from a rundown farmhouse by the late, loved and laugh till you cry British comedic actor Terry Thomas who - whilst trotting about horseback with wife Belinda some time back in the late 60’s - stumbled across what he referred to as ‘heaven on earth’.
Fast track to 1998 and Terry’s family home and sanctuary began functioning as a mountain high B&B holiday retreat, magical wedding venue and event location with eight private suites ranging in size and price from standard doubles to rooms with gardens and terraces and onto the deluxe Terry Thomas Suite - where you’d be forgiven for spending most of your time in the spectacular bathroom! Currently hosted by son and daughter in-law, Cushon and Laetitia, a stay here is nothing short of fabulous.
The building’s beautiful exterior is surrounded by a stunning, wild Mediterranean garden and includes two greenhouses where Spanish forest plants, cacti and succulents are cultivated alongside a water-rise plant nursery while the pool area compares to the Garden of Eden. As for the interior – think grand, rustic, homely and fittingly decorated with colourful Terry Thomas silver screen paraphernalia and tasteful furnishings from here, there and everywhere.
This is the place where for five days or five weeks your ergonomic contraption is a hammock.
