Such is the scale of Pikes’ fame that it’s renowned throughout the world, notorious for throwing the most hedonistic, off-the-wall parties on the island. A slew of celebrity guests throughout the years helped to cement that reputation, among them the inimitable Freddie Mercury, who held his wildly rambunctious 41st birthday party at the San Antonio venue. To celebrate Freddie’s memory, and his untameable spirit, each year Pikes hosts Freddie Rocks, a party dedicated to Queen’s talented frontman.
This year, Freddie Rocks takes place on on Sunday September 2, 2018. You can still stop off for the quintessential Sunday roast from 2pm, but by 8pm, the glad rags need to come out along with the facial hair – it’s customary to don a moustache for this occasion. No tash, no entry, no exceptions. There’ll also be a best dressed Freddie competition and music from Andy Cato, Bushwacka!, Brothers Grim, Paul Mogg and more. Guest list is required (register via their website) but this is a popular event so admission is on a first come, first served basis. There’s a suggested minimum donation of 10€ per person, with proceeds going to the Mercury Phoenix Trust.
