DJ Awards 2015: And the winners are…

On Tuesday night Pacha once again celebrated the annual DJ Awards, considered one of the most important award ceremonies in the electronic music market, delivering 10 awards in categories voted for by the public, and another 12 Special Industry Awards, deliberated by industry professionals.

Solomun won the popular vote in his Deep House category, Cuartero took his kryptonite statue for Best Newcomer, and Black Coffee for Best Breakthrough, in association with Mixcloud. Island favourite and host of his own night again at Space Ibiza this season, Luciano shared his award for best artist in Tech House with Hot Since 82, whilst one of the island’s most popular imported acts of the last few summers, Disclosure, were voted best artists in the Electronica category.

Fresh off the back of his highly successful seasonal residency at Ushuaia, Hardwell took two awards, for Best International DJ, and for Best Electro/Progressive DJ. Newcomer Hannah Wants won her first award in this set, for Best in the Bass category after a busy few weeks playing for Ibiza Rocks and Cream amongst others. And of course, no award ceremony would be complete, without something for Carl Cox and Armin Van Buuren – Best Techno DJ and Best Trance DJ winners respectively.

Reflecting back on the Ibiza 2015 season, Faithless’s unforgettable performance at BBC Radio’s Ibiza Rocks in August was awarded Best Electronic Live Performance, and the International Music Summit in Dalt Vila was recognised for Best Ibiza Music Event. The most talked about party of the summer without doubt, Acid Sundays at the island newest hotspot, HEART Ibiza, won Best Ibiza Night of the year, and popular local hero Manu Gonzalez was awarded the prize for Best Ibiza DJ, after a summer of successful residencies at Sankeys Ibiza and other island venues. Track of the Season was the wonderful Acamar by Frankey & Sandrino on Innervisions.

For the first time in many years, the awards ceremony was followed by a party at Pacha featuring a previously top-secret list of the 2015 winners.  Claptone played to a dance floor reminiscent of a masquerade ball, Arthur Baker performed a live set which combined analogue and digital with an 808, 303 and Maschine, while Michel Cleis went back to back with Klement Bonelli before Cuartero closed the main room. An amazing way to finish off the summer season.
