Eivissa Medieval

Forget watching Game of Thrones re-runs this weekend – the best excuse to indulge your inner princess, king, queen, soldier or jester is the four-day Eivissa Medieval Festival, taking place from Thursday May 11 until Sunday May 14, 2023. The cobbled streets of UNESCO World Heritage Listed Site, Dalt Vila, are transformed into a place where duels, tournaments and battles are staged, where you’ll see geese and donkeys being herded up the drawbridge, drummers wandering around making a Medieval racket, maidens and minstrels sporting full Medieval costume, birds of prey elegantly perched on velvet stools and ancient instruments of torture dotted around the walls.

There’s an olde world marketplace selling spices and teas, cheeses, chocolates and sweets, home-baked bread, jewellery, handmade soaps, hand-woven baskets, luxe leather goods, wooden one-offs, pottery, candles and more, but perhaps best of all is the glorious open-air food market, where the sweet smell of grilled meat and fish entices you to the top of the Baluard de Santa Lucia, where you can wash it all down with plenty of mead (or perhaps just wine and beer!).
