The closing parties are over!

El Ayoun closing party 2010 - Silver & Fetish: 01/10/10

Oh my, what a weekend we’ve just had in Ibiza! Did it feel like a whirlwind to you? It most definitely did to me, and when I try to cast my mind back to relive the memories (and yes, I’m aware it was only a few days ago), they fly through my brain faster than TV commercials or a flashback sequence in a movie. A very fun, crazy movie mind you – so let me give you my drive-by version of the events…

Friday day: A boat party, with the very best of friends in the most beautiful weather sailing on the most gorgeous sea, all in the name of celebrating the end of yet another fabulous summer. Where to? Formentera of course, returning home at sundown just in time to get ready for…

Friday night: El Ayoun Silver Fetish Closing Party, where Miss W opted to wear a silver dress, however upon arrival, stood out like a sore thumb given that most of the other guests had opted for black, and the fetish theme. Though in hindsight, given the amount of flesh on display (on others), perhaps no one noticed my sparkling frock in the first place – there was far more eye candy to be seen! This was the place to see and be seen, with the amount of last-minute mingling taking place reaching obscene levels!

Saturday night: Port closing bar crawl is a bit of an Ibiza ritual, and having had the luxury of sleeping for most of the day (half in bed and the other half on the wonderfully protected cove of Sa Caleta), Miss W had no choice but to frock up once again and make her way through the winding streets for a chupito de Hierbas in too many bars to mention, finishing at the infamous Rock Bar where all sorts of unmentionable shenanigans were taking place. I would tell you, honestly, but that part of the evening is a little fuzzy…

Ushuaia Closing Party 03-10-2010

Sunday afternoon: Ushuaia Closing Party. I’ll admit, I swerved the Amnesia closing party the night before, given that I had the inside knowledge that the three special guests would be none other than Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and Marco Carola, preferring to dance on the sand rather than in a sweaty, overcrowded club however I started to regret the decision when I arrived to Ushuaia to find it still quiet at 4pm – turns out Amnesia was still open, however as luck would have it, Dice was cruising into the beach bar at that very moment, meaning I too cruised in as part of his entourage, VIP wristbands and promotional fans included. It wasn’t long before the clubbers began to pile onto the beach, and with picture perfect weather, you couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the season on a high note. Fireworks display and all.

Sunday evening: Space Closing Party was a bit of a work diversion for Miss W, as I needed to stop and have a quick chat with legendary Space DJ Steve Lawler, before he hotfooted it back to Barcelona for the winter. Backstage at the gigantic Flight Arena the dancers could have been the leftovers from El Ayoun’s closing party, so much flesh was on display. Just another day in the office really – so much to do, so little time, I checked out each of the rooms, did the obligatory catch-ups and was on my merry way. Seen one Space closing…

Sunday night: Pacha Cadenza Vagabundos Closing Party was obviously at the top of my list on this given Sunday so after a quick pit-stop at home for a costume change, it was over to the home of the cherries for the final full-scale summer production at the hands of my very favourite DJ (yes, still!) Luciano. Suprisingly, it was very quiet upon arrival – no guest list queue to be seen and a very empty club indeed. It seems in Ibiza you really can go to everything, and at around 3am the vibe started to pick up, ultimately becoming packed to the rafters, however I have to say, as much as I love Luciano, I don’t think it was the best night for the club to have their summer closing. I mean really, when you’ve got Guetta and the Swedes, how does a Sunday night compete? Then there was the matter of the after party at La Plage, where Luciano was a complete no-show… what a let down, after all his infamous beach party action this year.

Monday day-to-night: DC10 Closing Party is generally considered to be the closing of the closings, if you know what I mean and it’s the one place you know you’ll see each and every one of your Ibiza friends, and quite possibly for the last time in the season given how many of them fly straight back to their mother countries once the parties are over! Also, it’s the day that you just don’t care about hair, make-up, clothes, networking – just dancing. It’s pure, unadulterated Ibiza hedonism at its best, with the dark prince of dance music Ricardo Villalobos at the helm in one room while queen of the underground scene Tania Vulcano holds court in the other. As always, Circo Loco lived up to its wild and crazy reputation and a good time was had by all – I’m so happy that the unsung hero of Ibiza clubbing lived to see another amazing season!

THE LOWDOWN

THE GOOD: I hate to admit it, but, well, hurrah! It’s over! There’s only so long the collective minds, bodies and souls of Ibiza can take so much fun and games, and by the first week of October we’re all ready for a much-needed break. Bring on the Sunday roasts, yoga classes and detox programs…

THE BAD: What am I doing awake? Hibernation has begun…

THE GOSSIP: What’s this we hear about the ‘last ever’ party at Ushuaia? Is it true that all the Playa D’en Bossa beach clubs will be switching positions and changing names next year? Did Amnesia and Ushuaia really gang up on Space and Pacha with their double-whammy all-star event? By the way Loco Dice, what’s with that awful hairdo? Were Space too big for their boots thinking they could have a two-day closing event? Why did Luciano play the same closing song he’s played all summer? And why did he let Carl Craig play blinding techno on the beach the following day? Perhaps we’ll never know… but we’re already counting down to next summer to see what happens next!
