Ibiza hotel review: Agroturismo Atzaró

Atzaró Spa

First impressions: Miss W and her glowingly pregnant guest arrived at Agroturismo Atzaró in the pouring rain on a Saturday afternoon (Ibiza weather can be beautifully dramatic when it’s not sunny!) for our very last girlie weekend away before said friend becomes a mum for the first time. We were greeted by an extremely sweet receptionist in the warm, inviting lobby and shown to our room, where a bottle of cava awaited us, on ice with a plate of fresh strawberries, grapes and plums – all the more for me, thought Miss W, eyeing off her heavily pregnant companion’s bump! The rooms smelt of Sabina and mixed with the fresh aromas of the garden outside, accentuated by the fresh, falling rain, well, I have to admit we were in heaven right away.

Location: Agroturismo Atzaró is located In the midst of fragrant orange groves at the foot of a stunning mountain of the same name in San Lorenzo, the heart of Ibiza. It’s about a 20-minute drive to Ibiza town and half an hour from the airport and is very easy to find!

The room: We stayed in a superior room called ‘Migjorn’ in the main hotel building. It was perfect for our occasion, as it had the intimate appeal of being close to the restaurant with a lovely cosy atmosphere for the rainy evening. Evocative modern art adorned the walls and the room featured two double beds with heavy wooden frames. The bathroom was super nice with a sunken spa bath, ornate tiling and a heavy wooden door. After we took turns soaking in the tub, we donned our luxurious white bathrobes, settled into the entertainment system (TV, WiFi, DVD, iPod dock) and contemplated never leaving! My highlight was the private little courtyard with our own orange tree outside – which we appreciated much more the next day when the rain stopped!

Price: We booked the special Atzaró Romantic Pack for island residents, which was 280€ for two night’s accommodation, including breakfast, dinner for two and two massages in the spa. Alternatively, superior rooms start at 250€ per night in low season.

Food and drink: A buffet breakfast was included in the price of the room and on waking from the most amazing sleep, we dreamily wandered the short distance to the restaurant where a fresh and bountiful buffet of fruit juices, teas, pastries, fresh breads, meats and cheese, mueslis and yogurts awaited – and there was also an a la carte menu of cooked egg dishes! I started with a hot coffee and selection of fruits, followed by perfectly cooked poached eggs (a rare treat in Ibiza and a delight to my taste buds). Extras: Agroturismo Atzaró is like a self-contained pleasure zone, with everything you need to escape, relax, enjoy and reconnect with yourself and connect to the true spirit of Ibiza. The sprawling estate has three swimming pools, various gardens, chill out areas, restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, terraces, a boutique, music and sushi lounge, art exhibitions, and my personal favorite, a boutique gym and stunning outdoor spa with sauna, hammam, lap pool and quite frankly, the very best therapists on Ibiza.

The verdict: I can’t speak highly enough of our two-day experience at Atzaró. The ambience in the hotel was one of pure relaxation, just what we were looking for on our girlie weekend. The spa is the perfect accompaniment to the main house and room, it is nothing less than a sheer pleasure to wake up to a sauna, hammam and ice cold pool on a sunny spring morning (thankfully the rain stopped for us)! Atzaró is the only place in Ibiza where I feel simultaneously connected to the islands essence, yet transported to another world.
