A deep respect for Ibiza’s cultural heritage forms the basis of a Blakstad project while new technologies, materials and cutting-edge design creates stunning villas across the island and beyond. In Ibiza architecture the phrase ‘a Blakstad house’ has become shorthand for beauty and quality, carrying a prestige based on excellence.
Founder Rolph Blakstad relocated to Ibiza from Canada in 1956 after studying Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture in Florence and working as a documentary filmmaker for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. A visit to Morocco inspired extensive research into Islamic design, which led him to investigate the history of architecture in Ibiza culminating in the establishment of Blakstad Design Consultants in 1967 and the publication of his seminal book La Casa Eivissenca / The Ibiza House (1996).
Today, his sons Rolf and Nial run the family business, growing it into one of Ibiza’s most highly regarded design firms – humbly boasting a portfolio laden with beautiful villas based on the unique elements of Ibiza architecture and design. Each project is assessed and developed through the lens of lifestyle. How we live is as important as where, and a Blakstad Design Consultants house is designed around the ever-changing needs of the home’s inhabitants.
Over time, Blakstad Design Consultants have developed a signature voice that is immediately recognisable within Ibiza’s architecture. The restoration and modernisation of traditional farmhouses remain a speciality as well as the skilful combining of historic principles within contemporary designs. From the sourcing and acquisition of your perfect Ibiza property to architectural and interior design, planning, building and landscaping, Blakstad Design Consultants manages one or all of these elements, from zero to completion.
