‘I’ve been coming to Ibiza since I was 13,’ says jewellery designer Zara Simon of her second home in the Balearics. ‘My father spent a lot of time in the ‘70s in Formentera and he introduced it to us on a family holiday, and now I’m there every summer, and also in the off season – it’s definitely inspiring.’
In describing her signature style, it’s clear Zara Simon’s designs are perfectly suited to the modern Ibiza girl. ‘My jewellery is designed to be layered,’ she says. ‘It has a delicate feel on its own, but worn together it becomes a very bold look … it’s a little bit rock and roll, yet girlie at the same time.’
‘I take inspiration from my travels,’ she says, citing Jaipur, Istanbul, Turkey, Mexico, Greece and Formentera as major inspirations. ‘I love the colours, patterns and shapes in India, the jagged rocky coastline and turquoise waters of Ibiza plus little charms and talismans you find in Greek jewellery. Somehow, it all comes together and I put a modern spin on it.’
