The heat may be off but that doesn’t mean we don’t need to quench our thirsts here in Ibiza! On the contrary, a lovely big glass of vino tinto or single malt scotch sipped by a fireplace, a cleverly crafted cocktail to warm the cockles or celebratory cava as the festive season gets closer – and thankfully, some of the best lounge bars in Ibiza are here to serve…
The northern hotspots
When it comes to cocktails in Ibiza, there’s no denying Chris Edwardes, beverage director of Aura, is king. So rather than let his talents go to waste in the off-season, the lounge bar remains open every Friday night until (and including) New Year’s Eve. Just a little down the San Juan restaurant road, Nagai is a new contender in the lounge bar stakes, with happy hour every night from 6pm until 8pm and DJs and music every Saturday night. And of course, there’s no denying the liquid delights of Bambuddha Grove’s Siam Bar, serving up the iconic restaurant’s signature cocktails every night throughout November, with resident DJs bringing the beats every Friday and Saturday nights.
The beautiful beach bar
With uninterrupted views over the blissfully quiet beach of Playa D’en Bossa, Nassau Lounge – open Friday and Saturday nights until January 7 – is one of the last remaining beach bars to stay open throughout winter… and luckily for us, it’s one of the best! With a more-than-impressive wine cellar, an extensive cocktail list and smooth, deep house music until late, it’s the perfect place to kickstart your weekend with a cocktail, or wind down with a nightcap… however the mood takes you!
The sunset spot
Those bustling days on the San Antonio sunset strip are over for another year, and it’s now that quiet achiever Mint Lounge (Mambo’s little sister and neighbour!) steps up to the plate, staying true to its heritage as the only bar on the strip to remain open throughout winter. Of course, the sunset is still every bit as breathtaking and the cocktail list is comprised of pure classics to complement the view – think Cosmopolitan, Caipirinha, Caipiroska, Piña Colada, Daiquiri and Bloody Mary. Cheers!
The city slicker
While it’s a bit of a stretch to call Ibiza town a ‘city’ per se, La Cava – situated in Ibiza town’s bustling hub of Vara de Rey – is Ibiza’s premier meeting place and most cosmopolitan tapas experience. Open from 9am until 3am, all year round, it’s the ideal all-occasion location, whether a working breakfast, light lunch, boozy business meeting, birthday party or late night cocktails. With a recently renovated bar, be sure to check out the revamped cocktail menu too!
Raco Verd is many things to many people. Open all year round (from Thursday to Saturday throughout winter), it plays host to a variety of winter concepts including a supper club (with special guest chefs preparing unique menus at just 16€ for two courses or 20€ for three) and Balearic music nights, proving its 50-year reputation as the place to be in San Jose is very well deserved. The artful cocktail menu and expertly chosen wine list are among many more making it an out-of-town destination worth checking into… and it’s just so cosy you might never want to leave!
