Addicted to interiors

La Vie Boheme is the brainchild of interior designer Irina Barneveld – a design and decoration service available in Ibiza focusing on design, beauty, craftsmanship, style and individuality.

Irina’s reputation for transforming antique, hand-woven Kilim rugs into one-of-a-kind pieces of decoration may precedes her, however as an open-minded and talented designer it’s important to note her style is not singular, with her passion for her work extending to all trends, styles and spectrums. Irina is passionate about championing a hand-picked selection of high-end decoration and furniture brands within her interiors projects, believing the secret to a stunning interior is to combine one-off, vintage or bespoke pieces alongside designer items. Favourite staples for Ibiza properties include artfully made Gervasoni sofas and sofa beds, retro-inspired Classicon bell tables and timeless pieces by Gubi and chairs and lounges by Dutch brand Linteloo among others.

With your home or villa as a blank canvas, Irina works to create a bespoke style – be it bohemian, industrial or a combination of both. Many of the brands La Vie Bohème works with can be customised to suit your home (for example, one can select their preference of fabric and even stitching on Gervasoni sofas), and Irina also works closely with a local upholsterer to custom make chairs and poufs. Collaborating with a highly-distinguished selection of international fabric brands means Irina can offer her clientele a huge choice of materials when it comes to covering furniture, soft furnishings and even lampshades – the sky is the limit. French fabric brands have long been known for their dedication to the highest quality materials, intricate patterns and elegant styles, and La Vie Bohème works with Elitis, Manuel Canovas, Pierre Frey and Christian Lacroix. London brands too, have their place in Irina’s portfolio, including the well-known brand Osborne and Little, the super chic Designers Guild and long-running fabric experts Cole and Son. Finally, for those with a taste for the exotic, Jim Thomson specialises in luxury Thai silk and of course, there are Irina’s favourte Kilims, hailing from Turkey and Morocco.

Beyond furniture and decoration, another very important element of La Vie Bohème’s work is lighting and Irina offers her clients a lighting design service in addition to bespoke lamps and lightshades. Unique lighting options are often hard to source in Ibiza, with the trend for hanging rattan lamps prevalent in most island design stores, however Irina says the warm glow that is cast from a lampshade can set the mood and style of a room. With a variety of lamp bases in her collections – ranging from contemporary to antique – the client can choose a fabric from the aforementioned brands to be made into a shade in any size and shape of their choosing. In addition to custom creations, handcrafted pieces by Ay Illuminate and cool contemporary lights by Petlamp are also available.

There is no limit to the size or style of a project for Irina – whether it’s a small bedroom overhaul or a living room redesign or the entire interior design and lighting for a new-build or reformed villa, she thrives on the challenge of making each space unique. While some homes may need an injection of colour, others may require more muted, natural tones – a personal consultation with Irina (who admits she is ‘addicted to interiors’) will help determine the direction of your project before the design starts. A six-week period is all you need to see a complete transformation in your home, with all products surface shipped to ensure no damages in transit. Irina’s team will meet the deliveries at your home, working tirelessly to unpack and fit all pieces into place, leaving no mess and no fuss – just a new look for you to enjoy.
