Easter comes early this year, and it’s already just around the corner, which means before we know it the season will be here! For Ibiza living expert Toni Guasch of My Home Ibiza and his team, this means houses at the ready. Soon villas will be occupied, pools will be dived into and gardens will be blooming – and My Home Ibiza’s job is to get them fully prepped and operational pronto.
‘Building projects are fully underway now and are heading towards the finish line,’ says Toni, of the many renovations, reformations and new construction works you see (and hear) all over the island. ‘The deadline for most clients is everything to be finished by the end of May, because the law prohibits noise and construction during the season in touristic areas.’ This means if you were planning to start any building works now, you should be sure and confident you can realistically meet your deadline.
Meanwhile, for existing houses that have been closed up all winter now is the time that My Home Ibiza start doing checks on your everyday household appliances. ‘Appliances get overused in the summer and do nothing in the winter in Ibiza villas,’ Toni says. ‘We generally start up all domestic appliances once a fortnight throughout the winter. It keeps the machines clean and hygienic. You’d be amazed how many things stop working when they are not used regularly.’
It’s also time for Toni and his team to get into garden maintenance in a deeper way now. ‘Pruning should be done already, and it’s time to plant, and the viveros are full of new plants right now,’ he says. It is also the time to give villa exteriors a lick of fresh paint. But be careful, Toni warns. ‘This is tricky to get right though as during spring we often get red dust rains from the Sahara. I’ve seen hearts sink when this happens when houses have just been painted.’ My Home Ibiza to the rescue then!
