Ibiza club review: Dubfire at Carl Cox

Dubfire never ceases to amaze me – but often leaves me searching for the right words.

American/Iranian DJ and producer Ali Shirazinia – aka Dubfire – really looks like he’s massaging the decks when he’s up there. Every touch is with precision and every track he plays has been chosen with such careful refine to ensure his audience enjoys every single second of his performance. And it is a performance – even down to the little subtle shimmy he does behind the stage!

Playing for Carl Cox last Tuesday – part of the big man’s birthday celebrations – Dubfire sprinkled Space with a fine dust of happiness as he gathered everyone in the packed nightclub into his magical hands and then blew them away.

A mix of techno and classic house plus contemporary tracks, as usual, Dubfire lifted the crowd at the right moments, timed the beats to kick in beautifully and simply shone as he worked his magic.
A particular highlight for this little music lover was when the opening bars of ‘The end of the world is upon us… pretty soon it’ll all turn to dust…’ were played – a track I remember from 15 years ago when I was being introduced to the hardcore rave scene.

I tell you what though – if the world HAD have ended at that moment I wouldn’t have cared. Dubfire – you are a genius and I can’t wait to see you again. (PS. Please marry me.)
