Andalusian Flamenco band Navajita Plateá was formed in 1994 by Ildelfonso de los Reyes ‘Pelé’ & Francisco Carrasco Soto ‘Curro’, both members of a musical flamenco family from Jerez, experiencing great success with their track ‘Noches de Bohemia’. This summer, during the months of July and August, they make nights even more magical with Tardes Lunares at La Escollera every Wednesday and Friday from 19:30pm until late. We sent intrepid reporter Natasha Tadic, of Girl Friday to meet the band and get the lowdown…
When did you first come to Ibiza?
We have been visiting the island for many years, as it is one of our favorite places in the world. Our first gig in Ibiza was three years ago at Las Dalias and now the opportunity to share our music with Ibiza audiences during the 2011 summer is a great privilege for us.
Why have you chosen La Escollera for your residency in 2011?
There are several reasons, really. The first and most important reason is the owner, Daniel Gonzalez Diaz, who treats us like kings! He has offered us two nights a week to play and we are honored to entertain the local audience with chillout flamenco under the moonlight at La Escollera – that’s why we’ve named it Tardes Lunares (moon nights). Plus, it’s one of the few places that is open all year round in Ibiza and it has loyal, local clientele that always come to relax and enjoy the food, views and music in their free time.
What can the audience expect to hear form your performance?
Apart from our album hits, the idea is to adjust the music to the moment and the audience. Starting out with chill out Flamenco and building it up to rumba. Every night is magical and different making our repertoire a surprise. We invite you all to share and remember this magical and unique experience every Wednesday and Friday night from 19:30pm until late.
‘This life is luxury’ is one of your greatest hits. Is that how you experience life in Ibiza?
Nowadays moving on forward in life is a luxury and we are grateful for the life we have been blessed with. Many of us worldwide, have experienced difficult times lately but nevertheless kept moving on and that is a luxury.
Every year more bands and artists choose to perform in Ibiza. What do you think about this new hype?
To us it means that Ibiza is open to more variety. We love house music and the parties here too, but are very happy to see there is something for everyone and every taste and are glad we are part of it.
What can we expect in the future from Navajita Plateá?
Apart from our residency here at La Escollera, we are also working in the studio on our ninth album. As a little preview for our Ibiza audience, some of the new songs are included in our repertoire!
