Amante, Amante, Amante. Are these the only words crossing people’s lips in Ibiza this weekend? Everywhere I go it’s the same: ‘Are you going to the Amante opening on Sunday? See you at Amante on Sunday? Amante is opening this Sunday isn’t it? Amante, Amante, Amante.’
So in case you’ve been living under a rock the size of Es Vedra, today marks the opening of Amante Beach Club & Restaurant, the all-new incarnation of what was previously known as Sol Den Serra, and perhaps THE most anticipated beach bar opening of the summer…
Miss W and cohorts know from previous experience that Amante’s spectacular location scores the early sun, so headed to the venue for early doors – but it seems they weren’t the only ones, as the car park was already full by the time they arrived, a good sign indeed.
After a short walk down the dusty, rocky path (thankfully Miss W had opted for flat sandals not heels!), taking in the lush green scenery around us, we were greeted at the door by new owner, and the man responsible for the major facelift the venue has undergone, DJ and Azuli Records boss David Piccioni.
With an earthy feel thanks to the redecoration in natural tones, it seemed Amante – which translates to Lover in case you were wondering – had attracted the entire island population to offer their congratulations to David and his team. Events guru Mitch Clark was flitting around like a happy little hummingbird and manager Marco was swaggering about the premises sporting an ever present grin as he surveyed the crowd – well-deserved satisfaction after many months of hard work to create the space we celebrated in today.
Down on the sand, the champagne was free flowing and ‘The Wine Man’ was on hand to present his latest drop, Totem and the latest crop of his successful Ibizkus. Behind the bar, mojitos (Miss W’s favourite!) were the order of the day, the perfect drink to sip as the sun slowly slipped over the hills and the moon rose from the sea – a truly stunning sight to behold, particularly since tonight was a full moon rising.
A BBQ was set up on the sand for the peckish amongst us – burgers and prawn kebabs being the order of the day – and the sweet smell of grilled meat wafting through the air had Miss W’s mouth watering from the terrace above!
From the minute night fell, it was clear that the lazy afternoon vibe of this event had switched into party mode, as parents were busy phoning the au pair to collect the kids, the cocktail barmen had to step their skills up a notch and the night’s special guest DJ David Morales arrived to much fanfare – though Miss W had to wonder whether he was wearing the same outfit as the night before at the Defected In The House opening party at Pacha?
Amante, Amante, Amante. Definitely still the word on everybody’s lips today… and I’m looking forward to returning later on this month to sample the a la carte menu – that’s after I’ve done the morning yoga class and tucked into the healthy breakfast of course!
THE GOOD: The late afternoon soundtrack supplied by Ibiza Sonica’s Andy Wilson – chilled out Balearic bliss, the perfect accompaniment to the spectacular views.
THE BAD: No matter where you turned today at Amante there was a camera poking at you, ranging from happy snaps and website snappers to full-on television crews – while Miss W is not averse to the idea of paparazzi snapping her at social functions, surely after a couple of hours enough is enough?
THE GOSSIP: Who was it spotted loitering by the kitchen door, eagerly awaiting each tray of canapés after they were freshly prepared? Surely other guests deserved to sample those lush-looking chocolate brownie squares?
