Bringing a slice of Southeast Asia and Latin America to the west coast of Ibiza, hip new Ibiza restaurant Hawker Beach Club Ibiza – founded by inspirational head chef Laila Bazahm – is set to become one of the island’s best beachfront dining destinations. The seaside sister restaurant to her signature urban eatery Hawker 45 in Barcelona, Bazahm’s latest venture fuses the best of her culinary experience with the fun, sun and sassiness of the white isle – the perfect combination.
Tucked away within the sleek and sexy surround of AxelBeach Ibiza in Cala de Bou – a LQBTGI+ community hotel that prides itself on being hetero friendly – absolutely everyone is welcome at Hawker Beach Club Ibiza for breakfast, lunch, tapas, sunset cocktails, dinner and everything in between. The inclusive nature of the Ibiza restaurant makes for a fun and entertaining day or night out, with laidback sunset sessions with local DJs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and must-try drag brunches planned for later in the season.
Sunsets, views, performers and music aside, the undisputed star of the show at Ibiza restaurant Hawker Beach Club Ibiza is the cuisine. Bazahm – the daughter of a Filipino mother and Brazilian father – spent her childhood travelling the world, and after ditching a successful career in finance, trained as a classical chef and worked in kitchens around the globe including Manila, Singapore, San Sebastian and Barcelona to name a few. Her knowledge of flavours and techniques is astounding, and she draws on her life’s experience to create high-end, ‘redesigned street food’ dishes that look every bit as beautiful as they taste.
Clued-up Ibiza foodies know it’s worth getting up early to score a sunbed and sample the Ibiza restaurant’s incredible breakfast and brunch offerings – available to the public in addition to hotel guests. Start with the classic Hawker Beach Club Ibiza combo of croissant, coffee, juice and fruit, then select between creative options with international flair including the Thai-inspired ‘Hawker Style’ of yam kai do with Thai fried egg salad and more; the ‘Latinx Pride’’ of Bazahm’s own recipe arepas, served with corn pancakes, avocado mash, black beans and poached eggs among others. Mimosas or bubbles optional, but highly recommended.
The extensive menu all-day dining menu at Hawker Beach Club Ibiza gives you all the more reason to linger by the pool until late, with twists on tapas including patatas bravas topped with Korean bulgogi beef, tandoori of carrots with roasted yoghurt and mango chutney and Thai style chicken wings with homemade chili jam. The HBC Dirty Burger is for those times when only the heartiest will do, while mains include a mouth-watering, 100% homemade green curry (choose between veggie, fish, chicken and prawn), Bazahm’s signature Singaporean Laksa and grilled octopus with chimichurri or a Rendang curry made with grilled Angus shortrib served up straight from the woodfire grill. And that’s just the beginning – this Ibiza restaurant is nothing short of addictive.
