From beach to harbour

It seems this winning team has the Midas touch when it comes to Ibiza restaurants. Or perhaps that should be the Maya touch!

Bringing a new level of service and style to Cala Vadella and Marina Botafoch alike is the Maya group, with two all-new restaurants adding more glitz and glam to the Ibiza restaurant scene in 2017: Maya Beach Club and Maya Harbour.

Having opened both spaces recently to much fanfare from locals and holidaymakers alike, it seems this winning team has the Midas touch when it comes to Ibiza restaurants. Or perhaps that should be the Maya touch! The philosophies of both venues are simple – to deliver the best, high end experiences to their clientele in Ibiza, yet the settings are worlds apart. Maya Beach Club is a sprawling, all-white and glossy beach club occupying the most prime real estate on the south end of southwestern beach Cala Vadella, featuring four floors packed with a variety of offerings. Maya Harbour, on the other hand is an intimate, secret hub tucked away in the busy marina that is all about fine wines and deluxe dining – the perfect place to kickstart your Ibiza night.

At Maya Beach Club, it’s all about delivering the perfect Ibiza beach club experience. From morning until night, with everything you could possibly need in between, the day evolves from a laidback breakfast into a buzzing beach club ambience, complete with VIP sun loungers on a raised platform with breathtaking views over Cala Vadella, before sunset falls and it’s all about cocktails and elegant seaside dining. Sip bespoke or classic cocktails, shaken and stirred by Maya Beach Club’s resident mixologist as you contemplate the day ahead. Food, retail therapy, spa services, a kids’ club and more – it’s all at your fingertips. In the kitchen, head chef José Navarro is hard at work with his expert team, whipping up Italian-influenced, Mediterranean style dishes in addition to beach club classics like paella, pastas, salads, burgers and more. House specialties include a mushroom risotto with Prosciutto di Parma, salmon stuffed with prawns and served atop a seaweed salad, squid cooked in its own ink with a boiled egg and an exotic yellow prawn curry. Meat lovers will have their mouths watering at the sight of the duck breast with apple, honey and herbs, or the classic beef Tagliata. And Ibiza lamb chops are given the Maya twist with the addition of pumpkin, goat cheese and a coconut and cumin cream.

True to the restaurant’s Italian ethos, a wood-fired pizza oven churns out steaming, crispy and delicious creations – with the option of gluten-free or kamut flour in line with today’s dietary expectations. Rounding out the menu option is a high-end, a la carte sushi menu – creative, colourful and bursting with fresh flavour. And don’t forget to save room for dessert – they do say Italians do it better after all! Take your meals on your sunbed, on the beachside deck or on the upper terrace, where it’s easy to see why Cala Vadella has been winning the hearts of the European jetset since the late 60s. Sparkling turquoise water and golden sand surrounded by lush green mountains – it’s as close to heave as you may get! The views from the winding roads as you access the beach are truly breathtaking – and when you arrive at your destination, Maya Beach Club offers valet parking in their own expansive car park. Nothing is too much trouble – it’s all about ensuring your day flows with ease and enjoyment.

Meanwhile, over at Maya Harbour, the experience is a more intimate affair. Styling elements remain the same, giving guests a comforting feeling of familiarity and home, with the huge white ‘egg’ chairs and deluxe sofas to recline in, courtesy of the same architect and interior designer as Maya Beach Club. The same high level service philosophy is carried through to the Marina Botafoch location, with multi-lingual and knowledgeable waiters on hand to guide you through the menu and wine list with ease. Head chef Giuseppe Matera creates a sophisticated Italian fine dining menu unlike anything else in Ibiza – rustic cuisine with an international twist. If you’ve been sailing the high seas, it’s the perfect place post-charter to enjoy an aperitivo of the finest Italian cured meats and cheeses. On hot summer nights, hearty and healthy salads provide the perfect crispy, crunch and when you’re looking for a truly indulgent meal, the chef will never disappoint. Think spaghetti with sea urchin, anchovies and olives – fusing the finest of underwater delicacies with local Mediterranean flavours. A succulent grilled Galician veal fillet with potato foam and caramelised shallots is the upgraded Maya Harbour version of steak and chips, while the freshest salmon is pan fried to perfection and sea bass is traditionally baked in salt. The extensive wine menu is the star of the show at Maya Harbour, as one wall is lined with bottles hailing from Spain, France and Italy (of course!), all of which are available to be taken home. Ideal for those who may be sleeping on their boat moored in the port, you can enjoy a wonderful drop while watching the sun go down over Dalt Vila. Alternatively, take a seat at the long rustic wooden table – communal style – where you can take your time to savour your chosen bottle and connect with friends old and new. There’s no rush, no stress at Maya Harbour – the main aim is that you enjoy everything they have to offer in a laidback, intimate setting.

At the helm of it all is highly experienced and passionate restaurant manager Silvia Galatioto. Born in Italy, she moved to London where she spent eight years running high-end restaurants, which included opening three new restaurants for none other than Gordon Ramsay. A brief stint in the culinary heart of Copenhagen followed, before she was finally tempted to come to the white isle in 2015. A trained sommelier and experienced wedding planner in addition to her restaurant credentials, Silvia uses her varied experience to ensure the two Maya venues run smoothly and in sync each day. Be it a lazy day on the beach, a buzzing lunch service, a deluxe wedding or corporate event, apres-boating cocktails or exceptional wine tastings, it’s all done according to her high standards and under her watchful gaze.
