Fashion Fusion at Atzaro: 29/06/09

In the ‘real world’, Mondays are a day to be dreaded, the beginning of another long week, still suffering the effects of the weekend and already dreaming of the next one. But here on fantasy island, Mondays are pretty much considered Fundays, with loads of amazing happenings to look forward to, and giving you plenty of reasons to get out of bed – after a decent lie-in that is!

Today, it’s lights, camera, fashion as Ibiza’s finest retail boutiques flock to Ibiza restaurant and Agroturismo Atzaro for Fashion Fusion, a new event showcasing the summer 2009 collections, mixing theatre with fashion, shopping with socialising and style with sushi…

Miss W arrived early to check out all the backstage action, having been privy to the information that the Smack Makeup posse would be on hand to beautify tonight’s models and in due course, she and the White-ettes were also lucky enough to have the opportunity to be beautified themselves in the makeup artist’s downtime. The modeling contract is obviously still in the post, however I can say my lashes were out of this world and my eyes would have given Bridget Bardot a run for her money…

As the sun went down over the hills behind us, the crowd got bigger and bigger until we could wait no longer for the big show to finally take place. Cue models, DJs, lights and photographers at the fashionably late hour of 11pm – and this was a no expense spared extravaganza that Miss W (who has attended more international fashion shows than she has had cooked dinners and that is no lie!) began to get the feeling that we were in for something rather special.

Rather special indeed, as our good friends from Kurru Kurru sent scantily clad models (it’s true, sometimes less is more) down the runway, simulating lost luggage to promote their all-new SOS kits, followed by Graffiti, who perhaps paid a little too much attention to the mantra, only offering three looks (albeit the perfect Ibiza beach vibe) for the duration of their time on the runway.

Then it was over to reVOLVER, for a showcase of the hottest international labels available in Ibiza, featuring their current ‘must-buy’ item, sass+bide Rats leggings. Thankfully for those lusting after them (not Miss W of course, I splashed the plastic on mine the minute they arrived in store), there was a mobile retail boutique on-site, complementing Gisela G’s all-new installation and satisfying any passion for fashion that may strike over the course of the evening.

Miss W’s only complaint (as a seasoned fashion professional) was that one had to stand throughout the entire event – there’s no beating the thrill of finding you’re seated in the front row and receiving a much coveted goodie bag at fashion week, not to mention the relief of sore feet after an evening in heels! After all, we did have Cocoon to attend after the event you know…
THE LOWDOWN

THE GOOD: The amazing addition of a glass topped runway over Atzaro’s famous water feature was a very welcome addition –no more fears of models stumbling head first into cold water. Errr, or repeat performances like that of Atomic Kitten in 2008. Insert huge sigh of relief here.

THE BAD: God, isn’t it AWFUL being surrounded by models for the duration of the evening? OK, so I know we’re only human and they’re just doing their jobs, but you’d think they’d all have some OTHER glamorous job to jet off to, leaving us to swan about Atzaro looking glammer than thou. Tonight, sadly not, with a final score reading like Models – 5, Miss W, 1…

THE GOSSIP: There were a couple of no-shows that were duly noted… and while Miss W COMPLETELY understands the need to take a night off during this hectic part of the season, there’s another part of me that says don’t RSVP if you have no intention whatsoever of showing up.
