The vision of founder and designer Jane Natascha Naeke – a German-born global soul who settled in Ibiza permanently over 15 years ago – Aurobelle Ibiza’s flagship store stands in the heart of Ibiza’s most multicultural village, Santa Gertrudis, a three-level wonderland of colour, patterns, textures and style.
As a child, Jane was surrounded by creativity, blessed with an artistic, hippy family who made their own clothes – in a true bohemian style. “My mother had an art gallery, and a vintage shop,” she says. “And I learned everything from her and my grandparents. I had a fascination with prints from an early age, and I was even designing my doll’s dresses back then.”
Jane first stepped foot on Ibiza soil at the tender age of five, and inherited both her parents’ bohemian style and lifestyle. When she was old enough, India was calling, where she found her affinity with design. “I started making dresses in Goa, in lots of floral fabrics, and these sold well enough for me to open a little shop. The I opened a second shop in another village… and when I would come back to Ibiza for half a year, I had a lot of clients straight away, and people making wholesale enquiries.”
And thus, Aurobelle was born, over ten years ago, a brand embodying femininity, freedom and so much more – authentic bohemian style. Today, Jane’s designs are inspired by the colours and shapes of nature, with each piece made by hand in India, using traditional block printing methods on all-natural fibres.
The colours of Formentera, the designs of Mexico and Asian embroidery have featured heavily in previous collections, and hot sellers for 2014 have been the Indian-inspired ‘Vintage Dress’, hand-made silk kurtas, kurtas made from colourful saris, super cool boot belts, embroidered Indian clutch bags, clever sarongs that double as a beach towel and all-white kaftans perfect for a day on Ibiza’s beaches.
