In 2013, the popular Ibiza wedding venue once known as Cap des Falco came under the new management of high-end, chic and sophisticated styling of the Experimental Cocktail Club group. Experimental Beach Ibiza was born, and the venue was transformed into an even more wonderful (and thus becoming even more popular) location for Ibiza seaside sunset weddings.
Appearances may be one thing, but beyond its stylish exterior ECC Ibiza also boasts a passionate, creative and ultra-professional team of experts who ensure your big day run smoothly and be like no other. At the core of this team is experienced international wedding and events planner Elisa Marshall, who spends summers dreaming up extravagant Ibiza weddings and winters working within the highly competitive NYC market. This is a girl who knows her stuff, inside and out, across the world (probably even to the moon) and back when it comes to wedding, but don’t expect to find a military like commander at the controls – this self-confessed softie sheds a tear at each and every wedding she plans!
“The day I don’t cry at a wedding is the day I need to get out of the business,” she laughs, telling us of her passion for her profession. “The day that it becomes ‘just a job’ to me, it would be over. I absolutely love the personal satisfaction of seeing the happiness you help create for people, the smiles on their faces and being a part of their best day ever – it’s a big responsibility but I believe you always have to go above and beyond. That’s where the joy comes from for me, going the extra mile.”
Canadian-born Elisa’s journey to becoming a wedding planner began as a little girl, throwing parties and making wedding dresses for her dolls, then saw her apply her keen eye for aesthetics to studying fashion design, followed by stints working in PR, marketing and merchandising with various fashion brands, where she discovered by chance, an affinity with the events planning side of the trade. “I loved taking a concept or brand and pulling in all the elements that made it unique and special together, then relaying that to the customer,” she says. “Later on, I started looking to get further into event planning and I stumbled upon a wedding planning course and just fell in love with it. It merged the aesthetic side of events that I loved with creativity, planning and organization and personal interaction.”
After working under the watchful eye of one of Montreal’s most famous wedding planners, Elisa quickly branched out on her own, discovering her flair for making her couples’ individual fairytales come to life. “I love finding all the personal elements that can tell a unique story about each couple,” she says. “I really customize and personalize all my weddings – I don’t want them to all be one style.”
In true fairytale fashion, six years later, when the opportunity arose for Elisa and her boyfriend to pack up their lives and relocate to Ibiza to set up Experimental Beach Ibiza, she jumped at the chance to step in and become the venue’s exclusive wedding and event planner (“And I don’t regret a minute!”). Today, she smoothly and efficiently manages each event, with the option to also book her full wedding planning service available. And it is these exclusive weddings, where she really comes into her own…
Getting to know her couples is her favourite part of the job – from finding out how they met (“Did they drink a special cocktail on their first date that we could serve?”) to getting to know their friends and families (“Let’s serve their grandmother’s secret recipe dessert instead of traditional wedding cake!”) plus their tastes (“Let’s get an acoustic cover version of their favourite song to walk down the aisle!”), likes and dislikes. “The wedding industry can be very cliché,” she says of her desire to deeply personalize each event. “I don’t think you should ever choose things because they are trendy, or on Pinterest for example – every element, from food, flowers, colours and decoration should have some sort of relevance and meaning to you, and you both as a couple.” Thinking outside the box is her motto (and specialty!), vowing never to create a ‘wedding factory’ where she produces multiple weddings in a similar style.
Ibiza and Experimental Beach Ibiza provides Elisa with the chance to really express her creativity, as brides coming to the white isle to get married tend to be looking for a more laidback wedding than the typical ‘banquet hall’ style of city weddings. “I can be firm and tough when I need to,” she says. “But I also think when you’re looking for a wedding planner you need to find someone creative, who you can trust, who can be your friend and who you can laugh with too.”
