Although it’s true we don’t experience a very harsh winter here in Ibiza, it’s still a welcome change to see the sun beginning to warm the soil on our island. So now that spring is in the air, how are you feeling? Ready to embrace the next summer season? Ready to rock and roll? Or are you feeling a little cluttered or congested, inside both the body and the mind?
If so, it’s a wonderful time to add some fabulous fresh herbs into your day-to-day diet, to support your organs in physically cleansing themselves, plus to mentally rebalanced, clearer and lighter.
Here are our top three detoxifying and health giving herbs… all of which you can pick in the Ibiza campo and add to your daily lifestyle!
Parsley is high in vitamin C, potassium and folic acid and is a great blood purifier. It helps the body excrete toxins and helps lower the heart rate and blood pressure when eaten regularly. Boil it in the morning like a cup of tea, strain it and add lemon to give some parsley love to your kidneys!
Rosemary grows wild all around us in Ibiza, and is high in healing qualities, rich in iron, calcium, phosphorous, sodium, potassium, zinc, manganese and magnesium. It tones the organs and can be made into a delicious tea with lemon and a little bit of honey (after the water has cooled down some) and (especially for those who love to party) it’s known as the ‘the herb of remembrance’ – a mega-memory booster! Its high level of anti-oxidants make rosemary at an anti-cancer maven and in addition, it just loves the liver, deactivating dangerous toxins and helping your body flush them out. You can also soothe the digestive system after a big night out or a long beach lunch!
Lavender is a natural antibiotic with antiseptic and detoxifying qualities which can be enjoyed by popping it into your morning tea. You can also apply it via adding pure lavender essential oil to organic almond oil and rubbing it into the soles of your feet or adding it to a warm bath.
And while we’re spring detoxing – let’s not forget that the thoughts that we think can be just as toxic as eating the wrong foods and drinking to excess. The internal chatter that is constantly running through our minds is something that you can keep a conscious check-on. It takes self-discipline and it is as much of a practice as going to the gym, or practicing yoga – and guess what? It’s up to you to do this.
You can choose high quality thoughts about yourself – for example, ‘I am strong and powerful,’ or ‘I can create the new business enterprise that will bring me great fulfillment and fabulous financial returns,’ or you can sink into the negative, toxic spirals of ‘It’s all my fault, I feel so bad about this,’ and other guilt-laden thoughts chock full of animosity, anger, jealousy and other junk-food type thought vibrations.
Keeping thoughts pure and clear is a big part of life-mastery and meditation. Walks in nature and swimming in the sea can all assist you to calm and clear the mind so you can press reset and start again, with healthier, kinder, calmer thoughts and feelings whenever you need to!
