Ibiza has long been known as a fashionable destination for cosmopolitan travellers, lovers of luxury and wellness enthusiasts alike and in 2014, a new concept fusing fitness and fashion was launched on the island, adding even further appeal. Hosted by renowned UK celebrity fitness trainer Olivia Cooney, Pop-Up Fitness Retreats combine fitness, fashion, culture and luxury in the world’s most desirable destinations, including Ibiza, where the most recent retreat was held at the beautiful private villa Can Verru in San Agustin (also rumoured to be Kate Moss’s home-away-from-home when in Ibiza) in October of 2014.
A perfectly blended week of tough love, balancing vigorous exercise routines, delicious clean eating programs, calming yoga, inspired running and hiking trails through the unspoilt Ibiza countryside, stand-up paddle boarding, horse riding and much, much more, the seven-day program was designed to detox, de-stress and rejuvenate clients looking for an escape from their daily lives. However, be aware: a bossy bootcamp this is not! “The ethos of my retreats is about doing as much or as little as you want,” says Olivia, a petite blonde who takes the task of sculpting your physique seriously, yet realistically. “I of all people, am a fitness enthusiast, but I also know how to enjoy the good life, food, restaurants, good company and I feel there is no reason why we can’t enjoy both.”
With this in mind, itineraries were designed to include lunches and dinners at Ibiza’s most desirable dining destinations (including the gorgeous Cotton Beach Club and Can Berri Vell), complimentary injury prevention massages by Louise Cameron, plus a chance to snap up the latest collections by contemporary sport and street wear brand Pepper & Mayne in a pop-up shop within the pop-up retreat! After all, looking good is all part of feeling good, right?
“My desire is for my clients to leave the retreat feeling fantastically lovely, not feeling beaten up as if they had been at an army-style boot camp,” says Olivia. “I want to help kickstart a lifestyle change rather than promise unrealistic results like losing massive amounts of weight in a week.” Weight loss is a much-welcomed, positive side effect of participating in the retreat, thanks to the completely sugar-free clean eating menu and fitness regime designed by Olivia, who believes clients will walk away feeling like they’ve lived the life of an A-lister for a week and will want to maintain similar programs at home to continue feeling this good.
Live like an A-lister, look like an A-lister
When you’re spending a week (not to mention your valuable money!) dedicated to improving your lifestyle, health and appearance, it makes sense to want to look as good as possible while you do it! After all, it’s been proven that looking good on the outside contributes to feeling good on the inside – and every little bit of help counts!
This is where Pepper & Mayne come into Olivia’s Pop-Up Fitness Retreats. Earlier this year, Olivia was hand-picked by brand director Leigh May Evans (an ex-ballet dancer) to become an ambassador for the brand, due to her focus on a clean living, healthy lifestyle and the fact she looks to long term benefits as opposed to buying into fads or trends. And it goes without saying that she looks fab in the clothes, perfectly suited to the brand’s ‘studio to street’ motto.
Olivia’s guests were offered personalised Pepper & Mayne shopping appointments throughout their week at Can Verru in Ibiza – among the very first people to get the chance to view and buy the winter capsule collection. Every piece is thoughtfully designed, with emphasis on using the softest, most luxurious fabrics with elegant, understated design twists. Parisian quilting in brushed cotton, perfect for cooler evenings sits next to directional python leggings and seamless leotards which lend themselves as much to a morning yoga class as they do to layering up on a night out or a post work-out brunch by the beach.
Needless to say the collection was a hit with guests, as on the final candlelit yoga session of the week (pictured), most people were sporting at least one new Pepper & Mayne piece, and looking fabulous as they rounded out the week in true Ibiza style.
