Ibiza living: Vivenda Pitiusa – Estel reformation
Ibiza interior design experts Vivenda Pitiusa have been passionately combining Mediterranean style with contemporary functionality since the brand’s inception in 2004. Each new project – be it decoration, illumination, an outdoor terrace, an entire villa or a business refit – is taken on with a personal approach. The team, all of whom were born and bred in Ibiza, gets to know each client, their taste and desires while developing an understanding of the functionality of the space in question.
In the case of Estel – an all-new restaurant concept in the Santa Eulalia marina – the Vivenda Pitiusa team, under the direction of Joan Ribas, not only got inside the psyche of their clients via their usual process; they also travelled the mainland of Spain alongside them to get a true feeling for the inspiration of this exciting new development.
“Our idea was to make it feel open, as if we were outside, even when we are inside,” explain the creative directors. “We wanted to respect the environment of Ibiza and bring all the elements together – reinforcing the colours and the sensations of being by the sea.” Colours are a mix of blues set against white and neutral backdrops, while textures are inspired by nature – think woven natural fibres and copper sculpture lights. A feeling of nostalgia is created with modern chairs that have the appearance of thatched beachside seating and lighting inspired by old-fashioned baskets once used to catch lobsters. The effect is subtle, but striking in combination.
After dark, the ambience of Estel transforms from that of a beachfront chiringuito to a sleek dining destination. “It is almost like two different restaurants,” explain the duo. “We sourced lighting from Israel and chose special sculpture lighting by American artist Raquel Cohen to create this effect.” The sculptures, made with copper, transmit a feeling of being grounded and of warmth. Look up, and an additional lighting feature comes into play, with the ceiling filled with hundreds of twinkling fairy lights, creating the illusion of being in the open air.
The ethos of Vivenda Pitiusa is to bring back the authentic Ibiza spirit to design projects. “We live here on the island because we love the island,” Vicent proudly says of his homeland. “We have watched the evolution of its style since the 70s, when it was a melting pot of cultures, to the times where more urban styles have been introduced. We want to retain this island authenticity, by creating modern, sophisticated spaces that pay tribute to those early days of Ibiza style and the nature of the Mediterranean.”
The Vivenda Pitiusa showroom sits in prime position on Ibiza town’s busy main road, Ignacio Wallis, and it is here where the team can be consulted on new projects. Alternatively, you can peruse the stylish space for some new furnishings for your existing home. Whatever your desire, Vivenda Pitiusa is at your service.
