Ibiza living: Studio C
Interior design came naturally to Carmen Straatsma, a former magazine editor with impeccable style. Initially, the Amsterdam native took pleasure in sourcing unique pieces for her own home and rental projects, but word of her impressive skills soon spread and Studio C was born.
The driving force behind some of Ibiza’s most stylish homes, Studio C has grown organically as a result of Carmen sharing her flawless taste and ability to source one-of-a-kind treasures. Now based in her bright and airy design studio in Santa Gertrudis (where walk-in clients are welcomed), she advises on a select few projects per year to guarantee truly stunning results, covering everything from small spaces to whole villas.
Heavily inspired by the island she has called home since 2009, Carmen’s signature aesthetic is also flecked with Moroccan and vintage 70s influences – think earthiness with an edge. Respected brands including Cassina, Ligne Roset, Gubi, Living Divani, Tacchini, Petite Friture, Thonet, Michael Anastassiades are often found within her work and she also gravitates towards designers including Mario Bellini, Tobia Scarpa, Jorge Zalsupin, Charlotte Perriand and Hans Wegner.
As an offshoot of Studio C, Carmen recently launched a pop-up project dubbed Walking on a Dream, inspired by (but certainly not limited to) her love of Berber and Kilim rugs. This carefully curated showroom, held in the grounds of a rural finca, sold curio collected from around the globe. More pop-ups are planned throughout the season, allowing Carmen’s creativity to shine in public, in addition to her private projects.
