Es Jardins de Fruitera has a fully stocked, air conditioned wine cellar and an impressive selection of wines at half the cost of other island venues; their attention to detail ensures you are always served the best wine to match your meal.
The family history
The Roig Roig family history goes back 35 years when Antonio Roig Planells opened a chiringuito called Yemanja on Cala Jondal. Now Yemanja is in the hands of new owners, Antonio’s sons and daughter – Sergio, Javi and Mariana – bring their family traditions from the rock flung bay to the idyllic country retreat of Es Jardins de Fruitera in Santa Gertrudis.
The charming farmhouse was carefully restored by Antonio before he passed away, exposing aged stones when the plaster was cleaned and stripped away. His legacy lives on – not just an incredible eatery serving iconic Ibicenco food, but an expansive multi-purpose venue for weddings and events of all kinds.
“My parents started off with a chiringuito and at the end of every summer they took it down again,” says Sergio of the family’s culinary history. “At that time all the beaches in Ibiza were not known and you had to drive down dirt tracks to find them. When my father said he wanted to open a restaurant in Cala Jondal all year round, people asked him, ‘Are you mad? Why do you want to open a restaurant on a pebble beach?’ Look at it now; one of the most famous beaches on the island.”
“We brought the whole family here,” continues Mariana. “My father died very recently but our mother still comes to the restaurant. They are always behind us.”
Javier agrees. “We were always dedicated to working together as a family; my parents, me, my sister and big brother. It’s totally different here in the middle of the island, but with Maria and Sergio looking after our guests and me in the kitchen we bring you the same philosophy and traditions; good food, a family atmosphere and of course weddings. We take care about what we put on the plate; presented well in decent sized portions. Here you eat.”
Weddings and events
From weddings to communions, festivals to fashion shows, birthday gatherings, markets, conferences, corporate lunches or meetings, Es Jardins de Fruitera has so many areas and is so well proportioned it can host multiple groups and each retains its privacy.
The Roig Roig family also own Guillemi’s in the port serving gastronomic tapas, meats fresh off the Josper grill and tasty bites; with more elaborate food at their additional iconic venue, Plaza del Sol in Dalt Vila. When catering for weddings and events the menu options are completely bespoke and cater to an international clientele, drawing from all of their kitchens for inspiration.
“If you want sushi and sashimi you can have it,” says Javi of the events menu philosophy. “We don’t say you have to do it like this, or you have to eat this menu – we are super flexible and give you want you want to make your day special.”
Even with a wedding in progress the Roig Roig family are so well versed in hospitality that the restaurant remains open to private diners or groups. Antonio built an impressive extra salon for 220 people with water fountains and a stage, another room holds 80 people, plus further unique spaces, areas and rooms are at your disposal. At Es Jardins de Fruitera, you can do it your way.
