Ibiza restaurants: The Giri Residence – Now available for private dining experiences

Ibiza can still surprise even the most wizened of island foodies. Almost every season, just when you think you’ve seen it all – not to mention eaten it all – a restaurant comes out of nowhere to surprise you with its culinary delights or amazing setting. This year, the surprise restaurant in question is not new to the island, nor is it showcasing any new fads or trends. In fact, it’s a kitchen of quite humble proportions, one that’s been in place for nine seasons, serving up good old-fashioned Mediterranean home cooking with a contemporary twist.

The kitchen in question is at The Giri Residence – the stylish San Juan boutique hotel that went on to open an award-winning sister restaurant – The Giri Café – just next door. In previous years, the hotel’s in-house restaurant – dubbed ‘The Living Room’ – has only been accessible to hotel guests. And with only five suites in the hotel, that means a maximum of ten or so diners per night sampling the delicious fare coming from head chef Carlos’ kitchen. With the hotel completely booked for the year, and many former guests requesting to ‘pop in’ and visit on their return trips to Ibiza, the team behind The Giri Residence decided to introduce a very limited, exclusive Dinner Pass allowing one group of diners access to the restaurant each night.

The Dinner Pass is centred around a customised dining experience at the expert hands of chef Carlos and his friendly staff – think of it as having your own private chef for the evening. Only open to one group per night, the experience is ideally suited to either romance (perfect for popping the question) or intimate group celebrations, with a maximum of just four people per group, depending on availability. It could be a birthday, an anniversary, a special announcement, a reunion or maybe it’s just that you’re looking to encounter a different side to Ibiza. One that is far from the madding crowds…

The booking process is quite simple. Simply contact The Giri Residence to reserve your night Dinner Pass (planning ahead is essential if there is a key date you’re seeking) and you’ll be put in touch directly with Carlos for a phone call or email to decipher exactly what it is you’re looking for. After a few basic questions regarding likes, dislikes, dietary requirements and so on, a tailor-made menu is designed for your group – from the freshest of fish baked in salt, personally selected for you by Carlos at the market on the day of your visit to classic paella, traditional tapas or premium cuts of meat, the kitchen concept is very much about old-school home cooking. Just like Carlos’ grandma used to make…

Once you’ve decided on the menu, it’s time to choose a setting. There are many beautiful corners at The Giri Residence in which to take your meal, ranging from romantic tables by the swimming pool – absolutely magical as the sky turns from dusk, through to sunset, until the sky is twinkling with stars – and intimate, candlelit long tables inside the restaurant to Balinese chill out huts peppered throughout the garden. The peace and quiet here is quite unique in Ibiza – the sounds of the tall bamboo fences rustling is your soundtrack for the night.

Carlos’ kitchen is undoubtedly the heart of The Giri Residence and his warm, welcoming manner makes you feel enveloped into the family style surrounds. In addition to creating the perfect Mediterranean feast for your table, he can also suggest the perfect wines to accompany your meal and if there’s something special you’re seeking, simply ask at the time of booking. Much of the produce used comes direct from The Giri’s own organic garden, or local suppliers on a daily basis to ensure the ultimate in freshness – it’s farm to table cooking, with love.

In addition to the Dinner Pass, The Giri Residence also offers non-hotel guests the chance to sample the hotel by day with a range of day passes on offer – once again, limited to one per day. From the Spa Day Pass, which includes access to the beautiful spa and pool area, shower and towel service, a yoga or Pilates class, a 60-minute massage, fresh fruit juices, a gourmet lunch prepared by Carlos and more, to the Day Pass, where you can hang out by the pool in your own hut, plus enjoy Carlos’ cuisine. Alternatively, a Massage Therapy Pass or a Pilates & Yoga Morning are also available – speak to The Giri team to work out which pass is best for you.
