Get the look: Gypsy woman

‘She wakes up early every morning, just to do her hair now… because she cares now. Her day just wouldn’t be right, without her make-up… never without her make-up.’

So sang Crystal Waters, and like every good gypsy woman, we believe a woman should never be without her make-up! Pro make-up artist Corina Smith of Smack Ibiza tells us exactly what a girl needs to achieve the fresh and natural look she created for model Rachel on our recent editorial shoot.

*”We always start by prepping the skin, and on Rachel I used REN Hydra Glow Cleanser and a three-in-one toner, then I use the REN Hydra Moisturiser Global Cream and a NARS Pore Refining Primer SPF 30.”

*The next step is to follow with a light misting of MAC HD Airbrush Foundation to even out the skin tone. “The good thing about the Airbrush foundation is that you don’t need to use any heavy powders. Throughout the day I simply touched up Rachel’s skin with MAC Translucent Blot Powder – it doesn’t add any coverage or create a build-up of product, it just takes away any shine.”

*“On top of the base, I used just a little NARS Illuminator in ‘Orgasm’ to create a dewy effect. One of the great things about this product is that it can go on bare skin or on top of make-up or blush – it’s a great finishing product, giving illumination without a greasy finish. It works perfectly with this silicon-based foundation.

*Rachel’s brows were brushed and defined slightly, before applying Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Eye Base in ‘Sandy Gold’ to the lids.

*”To create a smoky eyeliner effect, I used a fine brush and MAC Eye Shadow in ‘Beauty Marked’ along the eye line and in the corners of the eyes – it’s a slightly darker, brown shade – but not taking it to the crease as this can appear dated and too traditional. I carried it just underneath the eyes too.”

*Corina took away any redness from Rachel’s eyes by used a flesh coloured ‘naked liner’ in the eye rims. “I also added a dab of vanilla pigment in the corners to make the eyes really open and pop.” Natural-looking lashes were then applied, along with MAC Waterproof Zoom Lash Mascara.

*In terms of colour on the face, Corina opted to keep it simple, with some light contouring using NARS Laguna Bronzer. “I just lightly brushed the bronzer on where the sun would naturally hit the face – across the forehead, down the nose and on the cheeks.”

*To finish, Corina stained Rachel’s lips with NARS Lip Liner in ‘Fantasia’. “It’s a really natural, fleshy, peach tone. I went over it with REN Lip Balm for a slight lift, rather than using a gloss.”
