A peek behind the scenes of daily life with the stylish Cinema Paradiso Ibiza co-founder and White Ibiza Villas Concierge manager.

She whizzes around the island on a scooter, her long blonde hair flying in the wind as she whizzes between beautiful villa locations, buzzing hotspots, secret local haunts and busy office spaces, meeting and socialising with a culturally diverse melting pot of people on a daily basis. The Ibiza lifestyle suits Alexandra Rens, however it was purely by chance that she found herself living in this Balearic paradise in 2012.

Tired of the grey, rainy climate in Amsterdam, Alexandra and her husband Jochem Rens were searching for a sunny place in Spain where they could set up an outdoor cinema company. “Honestly,” she starts to tell the story of her island connection. “They already had one in Valencia and Barcelona, which is how we ended up here! Then we realised the island was missing something cultural like this, so it fit.”

It was love at first visit however, and Ibiza, it transpired, was the perfect location – not only for the couple’s company, Cinema Paradiso Ibiza, but also for Alexandra’s outgoing personality and open-minded take on life, which saw her also take on a role as concierge manager for White Ibiza Villas.

The seasonal lifestyle also suits Alexandra and Jochem, who share a love of travel and take extended jaunts in the off-season. The last three years have seen them traverse South and Central America, with the vibrant colours and hand-embroidered textures of places like Peru, Guatemala and Ecuador very present in Alexandra’s accessorising.

Equally at home in the Pacha VIP as she is sitting in a small village bar talking to locals who are drinking their morning beer at 10am, Alexandra’s appreciation of travel, living abroad and local customs combined with a background in five-star hospitality management means she understands what drives the people around her and knows how to dress for every Ibiza situation.

A former make-up artist, she loves dressing up and putting make-up on for social events, while in her own time sports a more relaxed, laidback look. Her natural height advantage means she doesn’t need to wear high heels around the cobbled streets of Ibiza or dancing til dawn in a club.

“I love places like Can Cosmi,” she says when asked of her favourite places around the island. “Last time I was there I met an old abuela (grandmother) who hadn’t left the area in 60 years, who ended up showing me pictures of her grandchildren. I love the Spanish family values and their culture surrounding mealtimes together.”

Living in Talamanca means easy beach access, though when she’s looking to escape the town crowds, Alexandra heads to Cala Saladita or Cala Bassa to enjoy the ultra pure water. Tapas is a favourite meal option with places like Can Pa and Can Terra on her favourites list, however she also loves spending rare summer nights at home enjoying her husband’s cooking, followed by a classic comedy and a glass of wine – going back to the original experience that inspired the couple to create their cinema company in the first place!
