Choosing Ibiza, a melting pot of ancient Mediterranean civilisations, as his home, Sicilian born goldsmith Nino D’Agata has created an elegant shop, here in Santa Gertrudis, where he combines traditional goldsmithing techniques with a contemporary eye to create original and bespoke jewellery designs.
Nino was only eighteen when he moved to Rome to study at the University of Architecture. Following his graduation, a pilgrimage through Europe, the Middle East, South America, Afghanistan and India saw him discover a passion for working with gems and semi-precious stones.
Returning to Italy in 1984, Nino opened a workshop near Piazza Navona in Rome - an area famous for its classical goldsmith workshops. It is here he was invited to take part in an exhibition with the prestigious assembly of “Scuola Romana, del nobil Collegio di St Eligio”, further enriching his knowledge and skills as a goldsmith and artisan. Several personal and collective exhibitions throughout Europe followed, gaining notoriety and establishing his loyal clientele.
In 1993 Nino moved his family to Ibiza, his “paradise island of ancient beauty”, to create the perfect lifestyle – one that allows him the time, space and cultural inspiration to remain creative. And create he does – whether a totally new piece or the resplendent transformation of a treasured heirloom – Nino is a true Ibiza gem, turning golden dreams into reality.
