Though the big 5-0 might seem absolutely ancient (let’s face it – he could be your grandpa* if you’re under 25) to half the population of San Antonio, the big man’s age certainly didn’t stop them from attending his mammoth birthday shindig at Sands yesterday nor his major-league party at Space last night.

(*Although if CC was someone’s grandpa, we have to wonder if they’d be seriously chuffed at his coolness or just a wee bit embarrassed the way the rest of us are when our gramps have a few too many at family shindigs?

Anyway I digress. 50 is apparently the new 30, age is not a barrier, age is but a number, you’re only as old as the person you feel… you see where I’m going with this? Lately it seems – with Ibiza DJs I mean – that age is also something to be proud of, with more and more DJs sharing their birthday celebrations with their fans in the summer.

Pete Tong clocked 51 this week, chiming in on Carl’s party at Sands – though we hear news of a private soiree set for later this month. Matthew Bushwacka turns 40 today – cue another double whammy party, kicking off at Sands with what could only be the DJ’s dream line-up; followed by Ibiza Underground tonight, another event to which everyone is invited of course. Sam Divine celebrated her birthday at Pooldisco last Saturday, though it appeared she was so busy dancing she didn’t notice her candles fizzling out in the booth!

What’s next? Cathy Guetta jumping out of a cake at Ushuaia for Dave’s 45^th birthday later this year – oh wait, it’s not until November when the venue is closed. Oh well – we’re sure she’ll find another excuse to cake-jump before the season is through.

Then there’s the clubs throwing birthday parties too. Ibiza Rocks turned seven with Kasabian on July 11, Privilege turned 19 last Wednesday with Redfoo of LMFAO; Renaissance are spending an entire summer celebrating turning 20 at Pacha and on Monday it was the DC10 anniversary. Coming up, tomorrow night we wish a very happy birthday to Cream Ibiza, celebrating 18 years at Amnesia with a major line-up, Café Ole celebrate their birthday on August 11, and then on August 12, their home venue Space turns 23 with We Love hosting a mega shindig with none other than the Chemical Brothers headlining as their gift to the club. And the list goes on… (remember the Miss W Ibiza birthday extravaganza?)

But for me, one question still remains… what do you get the DJ (or the club) who already has everything? Answers on a postcard please – what would YOU give Coxy for his 50^th birthday? I’m thinking the Chanel logo could work…
