Tucked away like a miniature enchanted kingdom in Figueretes is the iconic Art Deco-meets-rock’n’roll Hotel Es Vive.
It was about 9am on a searing hot summer day back in 2000-and-something. I was wearing a sequinned mini-dress that was really only appropriate after dark. My make-up was smudged, I didn’t have any sunglasses and I couldn’t be sure if I was still drunk or it was a hangover kicking in. I did a quick double-check to be sure my phone, wallet and keys were all still on my person – thankfully, all were present and accounted for. Unlike my brain cells, as I had no idea what had just happened to the last, say, eight hours.

As a tasty starter, a poolside snack or a tapas bite to share amongst friends (trust us – you’ll want to order more than one because this is too good to share!), the Iberic Ham Pintxo at Hotel Es Vive restaurant Deco is one of the very best twists on tradition we’ve had the pleasure to wrap our lips around this summer!
Deco head chef Juan Dechecco uses modern compression techniques to fuse the classic Spanish dish of Iberic ham, bread, olive oil, cheese and tomato together into a taste-sensational block, served pintxo style with grated tomato on top. A truly outstanding menu creation, and the perfect complement to an icy cold beer on a hot summer day!
Summer and salads go hand in hand, and Hotel Es Vive restaurant Deco head chef Juan Dechecco has created one of the tastiest creations… with a little kick! The deliciously delicate flavour of soft shell crab is fused with tomato, diced granny smith apples, crispy lettuce and red onion, then served with a spicy tomato dressing – perfect to share as a starter, or as a deluxe main dish you’ll be talking about long after the holiday is over (all the more reason to book your return ticket!).
Pass through the stylish art deco lobby of Ibiza’s famous Hotel Es Vive, and step into another world at Es Vive Spa, far removed from the hustle and bustle of summer in Ibiza and the stress of daily work and life. Although her calm, warm and nurturing persona would have you think she’d been born into the spa, beauty and healing industries, it was actually a dramatic life change that saw Ruth Cardà – who hails from Barcelona, but is a long-term Ibiza resident – become interested in spa and alternative therapies around 10 years ago. For the past four of those years, she has been at the helm of the intimate Es Vive Spa, providing much needed balance and care to hotel guests and visitors alike. Read more
Nothing beats a hearty (or healthy, depending on your appetite) poolside brunch after a night out in Ibiza, and those in-the-know hotfoot it to Hotel Es Vive in Figueretes, where Deco Restaurant serves brunch from 11am until 8pm – winning! White Ibiza first met chef Juan Dechecco in 2010 (read the original interview here), as he took over the reins of the busy Hotel Es Vive restaurant. Over the past four years, the hotel restaurant, its menu and clientele have been constantly evolving – today, what was once a boisterous poolside bar is now the chic, classy Deco restaurant, serving up light bites and lunch by day and elegant, contemporary cuisine by night.
Intrinsically understanding his clientele’s culinary needs, Argentinean-born Juan runs the Deco kitchen with utmost professionalism and an ever-present desire to keep the menus fresh, creative and delicious from morning until night. Whether it’s perfectly poached Eggs Benedict, sharing plates of tapas or a fine dining creation you desire, you’ll find something to tempt your tastebuds on his carefully crafted menus. Read more
