Like many of the island’s residents, popular Ibiza healthy eatery Passion Café in Ibiza Marina has been undergoing somewhat of a winter detox over the past month. And now it’s time to unveil the results!
Keeping the home fires burning – quite literally – in winter 2017 is Ibiza’s hub of healthy eating, Wild Beets, in the village of Santa Gertrudis.
The time has come to get the winter woolies out of storage, stock up on firewood and start making lots of hearty, wholesome comfort food – indulge in well-deserved winter ‘me time’. But before you completely batten down the hatches and go into total hibernation, be sure to check out the Ibiza winter wellness offerings – from spas and retreats to healthy restaurants and yoga classes, there’s plenty of relaxing reasons to still leave the house!
Enjoy the all-year-round spa experience
To celebrate their ten year anniversary, Agroturismo Atzaro remains open throughout the winter, complete with the luxurious spa and all-new fitness centre. Indulge in a pampering massage, facial or complete body treatment at the hands of some of the island’s best therapists, or check out the new timetable of classes in the gym and yoga space – ranging from yoga and Pilates to cardio toning and the blissful Mind Body balancing classes. On many days, you can still soak up the sunshine from the day beds in the garden… and if you’re brave enough, take a dip in the pool!
Taste the healthiest cuisine
While many of the island’s famed restaurants shut up shop for the winter, such is the demand for health-conscious eating (finally!) options that all of our favourite healthy eating hotspots remain open. White Ibiza 2014 Readers’ Choice Awards winner Passion remains open in three locations – Santa Eulalia, Marina Ibiza and within the BFit gym in Ibiza town (check our events calendar or the Passion website for opening hours), for fans to get their Passion fix, while newcomer Bio Bites sits right by the water in Marina Botafoch serving up healthy goodness seven days a week. Wild Beets is the hip new hangout in Santa Gertrudis, with its super healthy raw, vegan and vegetarian menu becoming a popular lunch option. Finally, La Veranda restaurant – within the famous hotel Agroturismo Atzaro – remains open for the first winter ever, with a daily 20€ healthy lunch special, and even a healthy kids option too.
Work the body beautiful
If summer is all about beaches and bikinis, winter in Ibiza is all about the body! Maximise your downtime by filling it with yoga, Pilates and fitness classes – rather than DVDs and bottles of wine – courtesy of Ibiza’s best instructors and studios. Winter is the perfect time to pick up a practice – after all, they say it takes three months to create a habit, so if you start now, you’ll be beach ready and committed to the cause come summer. Check the White Ibiza Class Calendar for the best classes to suit you – from yoga, meditation and even kids dance classes at La Galeria Elefante, Core 40 and Ashtanga at Hot Yoga Ibiza (in addition to hot classes) and a variety of fitness programmes at the new Atzaro fitness centre, plus Pilates in private studios and more.
Indulge in an off-season getaway
If you’re not lucky enough to call Ibiza home in the winter months (yet!), perhaps an off-season escape to the white isle is on your Christmas wish list this year. Ibiza Retreats offer a range of relaxing and revitalising retreats that include healthy options such as juice cleansing, yoga classes, life coaching and much more, staying in a beautiful Ibiza villa immersed in the island’s stunning nature, with plenty of options to get out and experience the winter lifestyle we are so constantly singing the praises of…
Cliff Grubin, the brains and healthy eating aficionado behind the iPurify juice cleanse concept, new healthy eating hotspot Wild Beets and Benirras juice bar Sejuiced talks about being mindful of what we eat…
“Awareness of what you’re eating is the most important thing,” says Cliff. “Everybody is different and should adapt to what suits them. Ideally, we should have strong, lean bodies – fat cells are where we accumulate toxins. You need to listen to your body… if you’re constantly on a caloric reduction diet to lose weight, then you’re not eating correctly.”
