Celebrating their 15th anniversary in Ibiza this year is alternative sunset lounge bar and restaurant Kumharas, set to reopen next Saturday to welcome its first sunset of many for the season. With music by DJ Eva Pacifico, the bohemian Cala de Bou restaurant promises an afternoon and evening of fun, fire dancing and fabulous food… plus some hippy-market style retail therapy too!
In the heart of San Antonio bay, tucked away from the tourist trappings and sitting right on the water’s edge, Kumharas has long been a secret lovingly guarded by Ibiza residents, offering an alternative view of the famous Ibiza sunset. Take your place by the pirate tower bar, on rustic wooden couches, deluxe daybeds or simply perch on the rocky coastline to sip on cocktails and sangria, snack on crepes and barbeque bocadillos as the sun melts into the sea before you.
Tables are going like lightning at Playa D’en Bossa’s newest winter hotspot, Mumak by Kumharas, for its inaugural New Year’s Eve dinner. The set menu is just 60€ per person, all inclusive, and kicks off with niguiris, uramaki, sushi, salmon tartare and foie gras, followed by crab and scallop gratin to start, beef tenderloin stuffed with ham and foie or marinated monkfish for main, with delectable desserts and two more drinks for after dinner, when the official party starts with music by resident DJs and more surprises…
Kicking off from midday this Sunday is the annual Kumharas closing party, starting with a huge paella for one and all and followed by drinks, music and dancing until midnight. The star attraction, as always, is the beautiful sunset over San Antonio bay! Kumharas sister bar, Mumak in Playa d’en Bossa remains open throughout the winter however… watch this space for more details.
This week is your last chance to sample many of the fresh Mediterranean catches in Ibiza’s best restaurants, and one of our favourites is the delectable local white fish Sirvia, cooked in a delicious chilli and lime butter and served with a crunchy herb and marinated melon salad at alternative sunset restaurant Kumharas, closing for the season this Sunday.
White Ibiza recommends: King Prawn Tempura at Kumharas
Whether to share as a starter or enjoy every last bite as a main, the light-yet-crispy king prawn tempura at Kumharas is one of the house specialties. Served with a tangy Amazu Ponzu sauce, a sweet vinegar dressing with a citrus tang that enhances the flavour of the prawn, the presentation makes it seem almost too good to eat… but the aromas make it too tempting!
Salam Oriental Groove Experience at Kumharas: Monday September 12, 2011
Alternative sunset bar and restaurant Kumharas present Salam Oriental Groove Experience every Monday night as the sun melts into the sea. Check out Yaron on percussion, Bahramji on Santoor and Amu on guitar, a beautiful musical trio providing the perfect soundtrack to the sunset.
In conjunction with Ibiza Sonica, the Kumharas Ibiza DJ Competition gives you the chance to share your music with Ibiza and join the ranks of legendary artists who’ve performed at the beautiful sunset bar and restaurant. You’ll need to submit a video of you mixing your best tunes, in the electronic, ethnic and ambient styles Kumharas is famous for, then be judged for eligibility to compete in the grand finale. Competition closes (entries are via Facebook) September 2, 2011, so get in quick!
