At beautiful Ibiza beach restaurant Atzaro Beach on Cala Nova, these chubby, fleshy, protein-packed Norway lobsters are given a quick flash on the grill before being whisked to your table…
Describing themselves as soul mates (and it shows), husband and wife entrepreneurs Jerry and Sophie Jean-Marius have combined a dream with a once neglected hostel and transformed it into the bohemian-fringed palace Ibizazen, an all-new boutique Ibiza hotel where a warm, multi-lingual welcome awaits.
Recycled art decorates the elegant Ibizazen lobby – funky wooden boat reception desk, inventive oil-drum furniture and stunning plastic bag paintings, available for purchase. This is minimalist with splashes of play – east meets west in hand woven, fair-trade, Feng Shui’d bows with bright blue Buddahs on top!
Very few traditional Ibicenco fincas (farmhouses, or peasant dwellings) have been left untouched in Ibiza, as investors, architects and constructors have snapped them up to transform into super villas over the past few years. Can Bassó is a simply stunning exception, a project orchestrated by Belgian property expert Francisco Dimmers alongside architect Amélia Molina from Ibiza, with utmost love, care and respect to the design and building traditions of yesteryear, subtly fused with high-end elements of contemporary minimalist living.
The ultra-luxurious six-bedroom private Ibiza villa is just minutes away from the bustling, seaside holiday village of Santa Eulalia, but has the feeling of being worlds away in the tranquil, picturesque countryside. Now available to rent through Ibiza villa agency Gould Heinz & Lang, Can Bassó is a holiday home-away-from-home for those looking to experience peace, beauty, serenity and style in Ibiza – escapism for purists and lovers of island heritage.
From its stone and whitewashed exterior – painted twice a year in the traditional calcium, rather than modern acrylics to let the house ‘breathe’ and ward off humidity, insects and bacteria – Can Bassó could be a completely original finca, however on further inspection, each and every stone wall is completely new, lovingly chosen and laid by hand to replicate the techniques of old. Attention to detail is evident in every last surface and finish – this is the carefully executed project of a perfectionist.
Each of the beautiful bedrooms – some were former stables in their previous incarnation, others entirely new builds – could easily be a bedroom in a stylish boutique hotel, each with its own uniquely designed ensuite. Think wooden ceilings where each and every beam has been handcrafted to fit in harmony with one another; perfectly formed windows and skylights delicately playing with natural light, perfectly complemented by chic, exposed hanging bulbs and quirky decorating details such as the use of goat skins hung from Sabina pegs, an industrial style sinks and tubs, wardrobes painted the exact shade of olive to match the tree outside the window.
Modernity truly comes into play in the kitchen and living areas at Can Bassó, where state-of-the-art technology is discreetly hidden within cabinets built into walls and former barn doors, and floor to ceiling glass windows serve to highlight the stunning exterior view. The swimming pool – presided over by an ancient, twisted olive tree – glistens like a natural pond, perfectly reflected in the windows of the finca and a beautiful outdoor dining area is set upon former railroad tracks, sanded back to their original hue. A perfectly manicured lawn echoes the clean, sleek lines of the pool and concrete decking area surrounding it, contrasted by the wild, colourful countryside surrounding it. Peasant life has never looked so appealing!
The perfect end to an Ibiza weekend takes place at Babylon Beach, with a traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings served up with the island’s most beautiful views! Roasted high quality meat, sourced from the restaurant’s very own boutique farm, plenty of veggies and lots of homemade goodness on the side…
Sunny Sundays will see the Babylon Beach terrace chock-full of islanders soaking up the warm rays of the winter sun, while Sundays with colder temps will mean stoking up the fire in the chic interior restaurant space to cosy up the affair. Expect great music from Babylon Beach resident DJs and the best laidback Sunday vibes on the island…
