Ibiza villas: Where to stay – Santa Gertrudis

Bohemian, chic and buzzing, Santa Gertrudis is a picturesque village in the centre of the island brimming with restaurants, cafes, boutiques and a refined international community. At once traditional and cosmopolitan, it’s one of the most popular areas for young families, groups and couples holidaying in Ibiza.

Surrounded by lush countryside – complete with farm animals and orchards –  with easy access to anywhere on the island, the buzzing, pedestrianised centre maintains its Ibicenco heart under the majestic gaze of an ancient church. The outer streets contain beautiful villas and contemporary apartments while the surrounding campo is dotted with farmhouses and luxurious modern villas.

Local dining

A haven for the health-conscious, the village boasts an array of healthy, vegetarian and vegan cafés including the cutting-edge Wild Beets and takeout hotspot Picadeli. Lovers of Spanish cuisine will find plenty of tapas and home style cooking options in the main square, including the iconic Bar Costa, complete with hundreds of legs of cured ham hanging from the ceiling. Fine dining comes courtesy of popular French eatery Bistro Plaza, Asian delights are found at Mikado and lovers of Italian cannot go past the legendary Macao.

Nearby attractions

In the countryside surrounding the village, you’ll find bike trails and hiking paths perfect for island exploration. Yoga and Pilates studios complement the conscious vibes of the village and there are no shortage of shopping hotspots, ranging from fashion and homewares – be sure to pass by the whimsical La Galeria Elefante for one-of-a-kind retail therapy – to eclectic auction houses showcasing unique antique wares, eclectic art and classic Ibicenco decor.

Best beaches

Though Santa Gertrudis is set in the heart of the island, some of the island’s best beaches are accessed within a short drive. Just down the road is the family-friendly beach of San Miguel, complete with watersports, hiking trails and shallow, tranquil waters. A little further north you’ll find bohemian beach Benirras – the hippy chic bay surrounded by pine forest that boasts incredible sunsets, iconic Sunday drumming rituals and a variety of dining options.
